You need to do the readings or you're screwed. She makes you get out of the classroom and get involved in the greater community. The essay marking is a bit slanted because she always wants more explanation but enforces the word limit (1500 +/- 200 words).

One of the things I can critique about her from experience is she expects you to go to lectures, tutorial, and her UWACE references are way too much to read (over 400 pages). She is very anal with what is written in an essay, if there are 1 or 2 points she doesnt like then it is an automatic negative 20%-25%. It's a 2nd year course ffs.

Comment:
Aweful lecturer, she talks too quiet, is generally boring, and tends to mumble a fair bit. The textbooks were completely useless, as were lectures, your better off studying the very key concepts of her slides and doing nothing else. I cannot believe that this prof has a good rating. This prof and class is the worst by far that I have had thus far.

Mary Louise is a great prof. She tends to go through overheads a bit too quickly, but her classes are more than enough to make up for it. :) Very helpful to any students in need of assistance, and good at helping people who are stessing out!
