Mary has, by far, been my favorite Professor here at Goucher. I had her for my first year seminar, which was an amazing class created by Mary herself. If you get the chance, please take her class. So much love for her. Drop by her office and have tea with her!

Comment:

Mary is an awesome professor. Her class discussions are amazing. There was a lot of reading assigned, and then in class when we discussed it I was astonished by all of the opinions and new information she drew from the reading that I hadn't even noticed. She is very accessible outside class, willing to meet and talk about anything. Love her!

Mary is by far the best professor that I've had. Never before have I met someone who is so invested in my ideas. Mary really cares- take her classes if you want to learn more not just about English or the wilderness, but also about the world at large and your own identity. If you want to think deeply, take her- and please go to office hours!

Mary is easily one of the most wonderful people I've ever met. She is kind hearted and inspiring. Mary encourages students to interpret things in their own way, not how we think she would like it. Her frontiers class is thought provoking a honestly mind blowing. Always excited to go to her class. Mary rocks!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Mary. She is an incredible person. My frontiers class, Where the Wild Things Are, is taken for 0 credits. I never imagined how much I would learn from her. LOTS of reading, homework, and papers. Gives extensive feedback on everything and always willing to help. Truly one of the most inspiration people I have ever met.

Marchand is helpful in any way she can be. I have never dreaded going to her class, am always excited by what new ways she will help me engage with the text. She is entertaining, cool, open to students ideas, is always trying to make her class better/more engaging. Plus she can synthesize any dumb comment into something articulate and useful.

Mary is the best professor I've had in college and possibly the best educator I've come into contact with. Her first goal is student success and is willing to pretty much do ANYTHING to help, if you talk to her. Her class is incredibly engaging and she really promotes our critical thinking, she works to build strong relationships with her students.

Mary is the best professor I've ever had. She's incredibly supportive in and out of class, and wants nothing more than to help you succeed. She does push you, and once she knows what level you can work at, she will make you work hard to improve, even if you want to slack off. That can be frustrating, but in the end it helps you so much!

Not all profs are elitist -- that's an ignorant comment. If you go by the STEREOTYPE, then perhaps. Mary teaches an American Studies/Culture class but claims to have never set foot inside a McDonald's or to have owned a TV. Yet she sees no problem with "reading" these "texts" the way, say, Barthe

elitist? ALL profs are elitist! please! mary is a fantastic prof who is always willing to let her students take a chance in their writing. she does extensive commenting on papers and goes above and beyond for students, even after graduation. also, she has a curious george mug and goes shoeless.
