Took Psy 370 w/ her. Tells students she is kind and understanding, but doesn't show it. Will call on students during class to embarrass them and frequently accuses them of doing things they aren't doing. Grades hard on tests, you have to have the exact answer she is looking for, and even then counts things wrong that are correct.

Tests are hard. She would not work with me to after class. I went to her office multiple times to understand why I got certain questions wrong, and I would have it correct, just miss 1 key word that she had in her head so I would get no credit. Her tests are multiple choice, true/ false, select all that apply, short answer, and an essay.

Tests are the hardest of any other professor I've ever had. She singles people out in class and she thinks she controls everyone in the class. She's very strict and her lectures are annoying because she stays on the same slide forever, trying to get her points across. Usually just ends up repeating what she's said already.

She is difficult to understand because you will love her, and you will get frustrated with her. She is brilliant and knowledgeable. You will learn a lot from her and she is very passionate. She can just be a really tough grader. Vague but wants specifics. She calls people out in front of everyone if they even look like they might be on their phone.

Mary is old school in the fact that she dislikes cellphones/laptops out, and loves participation and conversation. If you pay attention and stay engaged in the lecture, you'll understand the information. The tests are tough, make sure to read the chapters and use her study guide. She offers extra credit and also helps as much as she can. Very sweet

Took as 3 week intersession summer class. Reads off power points for 3 hours every day with only one bathroom break. Easy A if you show up but I learned very little. Didn't use the textbook, use her slides only for tests. I think she really does care about the students but I would not take if you want to learn.

She is very knowledgable & passionate about the subject, & she does provide interesting lectures & very fun environment. She could be a bit biased about religion in my opinion. Her grading could be a little harsh at random times too. She sometimes got onto people for phones and stuff. If you study and do the homework an A is not hard to achieve.

her tests are brutal, but once you start to figure out her patterns they're a breeze. She isnt always great with the material and will show lengthy videos on what she doesnt understand, but she is extremely caring. if you are having a hard time, she is very empathetic and will do everything she can to help you succeed. Dont plagiarize. seriously.

People either love Newman or dread going to class. i absolutely love her classes. She is very generous when it comes to regrading and being accessible outside of class. Her tests are hard, but she gives you a study guide that help tremendously--if you do the work. There is a paper, presentation, and extra credit as well. Final is extra credit

STUDY the powerpoints before class. That will get you a passing grade on the tests and quizes. Cite your work thoroughly in the research paper. She WILL report you for ANY plagiarism. She likes group work and if you can speak up DO IT! This will benefit you in the long run. Awesome teacher, incredible person, and getting to know her is a treat.

She is one of those teachers that everything must be HER WAY! She doesn't agree with the textbook so there is no point in even buying it. Tests are not bad if you go to class and study her PowerPoints. She grades the research paper so ridiculous and accuses everyone of "quilting" - which i'm pretty sure she just made that word up herself. AVOID!!

She is a great instructor if you attend lectures and engage in class. She does get tangential with stories during lecture, but usually lets the class engage each other about the material, it's really conducive to learning from your peers.

The only good thing was that you got to use huge flashcards on the test and final. Other than that i did not like this class. It is hard to understand her teaching method and yes she does stop the class if someone whispers. Her test are HARD! beware of this teacher

Dr. Mary Newman is the most unorganized teacher I have ever had in my life. She is never able to finish her lecture slides and never follows her syllabus. Because of this people often ask her questions about the changes and she often responded in anger and defense; often accusing us of not listening in her class. She's simply not suit for teaching

Very nice lady. Her tests weren't difficult if you study, and she let you use notecards! No outside work and lots of extra credit! Enjoyed the class and will take more with her in the future. Got an A and didn't have to try very hard

Horrible. Simply Horrible. Her tests are very hard and even if you study till your ears bleed the most you can hope for is a B-. She gets distracted easily, cannot lecuture and stops class if people so much as whisper or look at one another. I survived but did not enjoy it and it made me not want to continue in anything that deals with Psych.

Her tests are VERY hard. Gets off subject matter easily and ALWAYS stops class for people simply whispering a comment to their neighbor. I would not suggest taking this class with her.

Lots of extra credit-take advantage!! Like most psych professors the test questions were fairly difficult but all of the information you need is in her lectures, she has great examples and activities to help learn. Her grading is slightly unorganized but I would definitely suggest taking her, she really cares about her students!
