There are two kinds of art faculty at JMU. Those who really don't have a clue what they are doing or how to teach, and those who are artists and teach their medium- period. The latter can be tough, but you LEARN. She is one of them. Pay attention, work, and think- you'll learn and even have fun.

This instructor has high expectations for her students,( is not a burn out) and allows for a great amount of freedom with creativity in producing work. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful where interest is expressed by students.

I was warned this woman was mean but this is an understatement. She cuts your work in half in front of you and destroys your art instead of giving you any helpful feedback to improve. Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had at JMU. Avoid at all costs

She knows everything there is to know about ceramics, but she cares more about quantity than quality. Her philosophy is that if you spit out as much as you can, eventually you will get good at something. Rough around the edges, to say the least.

Pretty tuff. Very big on attendance and punctuality...so don't miss class ever! Do the work too, and pay attention, she doesn't like repeating steps. Knows what she is doing, but very hard and impatient. If you take her, do put in A LOT OF EFFORT!
