Comment:

This class is lots of work, and it's not an easy A. I took the 8 week online course. To earn an A, I had to read the entire textbook (to pass quizzes) and put a lot of effort into discussion boards as well as read side lectures. I did learn a ton and enjoyed the discussions. Just be ready to work and you'll do well and learn.

I would have loved to take this class in person but since I work full time I had to settle to taking it online. I loved the class the textbook was interesting and relevant. And the discussion board assignments were thought provoking and informative. He responds to questions and emails promptly and seems to care about students.

I took his class online, for 8 weeks. It was a steady pace of work, fairly easy. The teacher is great at keeping the class up to date and is good at communicating over distance learning, but that's about it. On a personal level, his lessons and assignments have very much project his own personal (quite Liberal) political philosophy.

Prof. Masaoka is the best there is! He?s smart, confident, direct and knowledgeable. Directions for assignments were clear and you knew what to expect for the exams. I wish he taught more Poli Sci classes....

Took his class online--great professor: clear on directions, quick to respond. He didn't interact much since he didn't want students' feelings to be hurt if he corrected them. Just be interested, do coursework by the due date, and take the quizzes repetitiously for the final exam. He clearly tells you what to look for and study. He's good and fair.

Unclear and inconsistent, and does a poor job defining expectations. I share his liberal bias, but he needs to reign it in. Unprofessional. And he needs to stop trying to be Jon Stewart. On the other hand I did learn a lot from the class (though I would've learned it all from the book anyway) and I disagree about the tests. They seemed fine.

His material wasn't that hard. However, in a political science class you expect an open forum for ideas and debate. This was not the case with Mr. Masaoka. He is only interested in reiterating his opinions. He WILL flat out tell you that your opinion is wrong. I suggest you just take his class online if you want to avoid his incessant babbling.
