Comment:

This class revolves around class discussion of A LOT (seriously, there's a lot of reading) of pretty interesting, albeit sometimes hard to comprehend, primary and secondary sources. Levey tries to keep things fresh with his brand of humor (which may or may not be to your taste). Participate daily and put effort into your notes, and you'll be fine.

Comment:

Levey's a good teacher, and he's very interested in what he's doing. The class was unorganized in some parts, and lectures sometimes tend to be redundant and/or uninteresting, but I've learned quite a bit about Eastern philosophies and Eastern historical perspectives. Incredible amounts of reading -- be prepared. Discussion based classes.

If you like discussion-based classes, Dr. Levey is a great professor. He really knows his materials, & I've learned more from his classes than most. The only downside is the amount of reading. Generally, the worst mistake you can make with Levey is not contributing at all. As long as you offer a couple of comments each class, you're absolutely fine

While he may be a semi-hard grader and there is always a lot to read, Levey's classes are relatively easy as long as you show some initiative come to class and speak up. I have taken two of his classes as a psyc major making C+-B's on his papers and ended up with a B+ in his class.

The class is very interesting but not at all what I was expecting. There was an impossible amount of reading. Even when I got through it, I couldn't retain it all. With assignments, he isn't clear about what he wants and dings you for it in the grading. It was beyond frustrating.

All around a great teacher. Although very difficult this is one of the only teachers I have ever had who I have been able to disagee with and not be belittled for it. Great for discussion based classes.

If you can avoid it, do not take Levey. He is a good professor and discussion was always interesting, but his requirements as far as how much you have to read are almost physically impossible. The average reading is about 35 printed pages of PDFs of other books, which are also hard to read. Just don't do it if you don't have to.

Dr. Levey is not an esy professor, but he will definately make you love the material that he is teaching. If you read everything that he assigns, then you will make a good grade. If you do not participate in class, and do you read everything, then you will definately fail. Ultimately, don't be a slack job and he will give you a good grade.

If you at least pretend like you're interested, and throw in a comment every now and then, he'll like you. He has a bit of an ego, but at least he is animated enough to hold your attention. It may not be a walk in the park, but at least he tries his best to equip you to handle it. Interesting if you give it a chance. Learn to speed read.

Nice guy.Psuedo lenient grader.Very specific.Helpful,kind of.When turning in papers,make sure that they go directly to him and not to the teaching assistant.i turned my papers into the T.A. who didn't give them to Levey,my grade suffered badly for that
