She is knowledgeable in her field, and in that sense, she has good insight to share. However, being in her company is difficult. Her rigidity makes it difficult to feel less than anxious and uncomfortable around her. She often cuts you off while speaking, and is not open to thoughts that might challenge hers or may be outside of her perspectives.

It took me awhile to get used to her teaching style and idiosyncrasies, but I enjoyed taking the class with her. She is very blunt, but it is with the student's best intereste at heart. You'll learn a lot and have an authentic experience.

she only likes her answers ... doesn't like to think outside of her head. doen't understand what we say, and most don't understand her. lots of busy pointless work given out, and she literally makes me want to go hulk style. bonus is that we get breaks... yet she has so many useless rules that make us feel like children....no chewing gum

Knows her stuff, but teaches with a rather narrow view of what counseling should and shouldn't be, what to say, the theory behind people's problems etc. Basically what her book says. At times hard to understand. Expects a lot, doesn't come across as very personable. Hard to picture as an actual counselor.

Dr. Chen is my favorite professor in the Family Counseling program. She is a gifted counselor, as well as a gifted teacher. Group counseling is her passion and her expertise, so be prepared to work really hard on yourself and explore your issues.

What a great teacher. NEIU should have more like Dr.Chen. I have found her style very easy, and this women really knows her stuff. She is one of my favorite profs besides all those in the Family Program. She is A-OK.
