Overall amazing professor! However, if you don't like group projects don't take this class. You're whole grade basically consumed of group papers (not to mention, they're very long). As a professor though, she is so passionate about her job and very professional. She definitely knows her stuff! I'd take her for all my classes if I could.

Melissa is great! She made the class much more manageable by not having ANY tests! She gives several assignments but she gives time in class to complete them. She sometimes makes assignments sound more complicated than they are. Overall you get graded on some assignments and on turning in documents. TAKE HER!

PROFESSOR ESSMAN IS HILARIOUS AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR. SHE MAKES THE CLASS AN OPEN FORUM TO SPEAK ABOUT OUR INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCES AND ALLOWS THE CLASS TO GIVE FEED BACK. ASSIGNMENTS ARE HIGH IN POINTS SO DO NOT MISS THEM. I MISSED ONE AND IT COSTED ME THE A :(

This class was fairly easy, however be forewarned this professor DOES NOT accept late work even when she is unclear about the assignments. No tests, and the book was online and barely used. Also you will notice she favors students. One 25 point assignment cost me an A and it's frustrating. However, I would take her as compared to other professors.

She is such a great professor! Her lectures are very informative and funny. She really knows her stuff and answers any and all questions without making you feel stupid. She really makes you work for your grade, but she gives great feedback and is always willing to offer her insight before an assignment is due.

Great person, but assignments are not always clear. She's super big on citing, so make sure to OVER CITE on everything and you will do fine. She's an excellent lecturer, and very caring professor. I loved having her!

Professor Essman is a great professor. Even though she lectures the ENTIRE class & we never got out early, she makes the time pass quickly with her interesting lectures. She relates to her students well & has a great personality - she never makes anyone feel stupid & even makes you comfortable enough to open up about your personal feelings.

CAS 394 is an important aspect of the program here, and taking the course with Melissa Essman made it much more rewarding. She talks you through the book (make sure to read chapters), helping you understand why an internship is important to your growth as a person. She cares about her students, and is always checking on us every step of the way.

She keeps track of attendance. Grade is based on 2 online exams, participation/attendance, and 1 paper. The only thing that I had trouble in was the final, so take detailed notes not just what she has on the slideshow. I bought the book and only used it for the midterm. Midterm was a written exam online. Final was all multiple choice.

Prof. Essman's lectures were well-planned and involved extensive class participation. We were asked to apply the theories to real life situations and in so doing allowed me a deeper grasp of the concepts. She was engaging, helpful, and interesting. I would take any class she taught. I thoroughly enjoyed both the lectures and the activities

You cannot miss class because usually professors excuse 2 or missing absences but she doesn't. She is very vague in what she wants but doesn't grade too hard but don't take it lightly because i did and did bad on one of the assignments because i just bsed it.

Prof. Essman is super passionate about her lectures and that makes class fun. She is extremely vague about what she wants for assignments and then marks you down for not having what she wants in your essays. Come to class, take notes, and when you write papers, pour your heart and knowledge into them like your life depended on it!

really hard to understand this prof. She isn't quite clear on what she wants us to learn from the lectures or textbook. Her lectures are quite hard to grasp the concept but i guess reading the textbook is your best friend in this class. Paper isn't too hard. Her test are online but it confusing since you have answer as if you were her.

Her lectures are intriguing, especially if you are a child development major! Her only faults are direction giving and grading. Putting in 10 hours of solo work on a group project, for example, only got me a b- because the finished product didn't coincide with her expectations due to her vaque directions. She is realy hard to please!

I agree with the other review. The lectures are interesting but have nothing to do with the book. She is really vague about what she wants for assignments. All the tests are online but has some weird guidelines for them. Her study guides are not that help full. She is nice though...make sure you go to class to get points!

Easy GE class. Tests are online, no real need for the book. It was really interesting actually. You have to do a group presentation for your final that is pretty easy compared to other group projects. Highly recommend taking her.
