Professor Michael Alexeev is one of IU's treasures. His research on the transitioning Soviet economy and his highly invested teaching demonstrate only a part of his brilliance. The man is incredibly intelligent and willing to help with great care and sharp insight if you take the time to ask good questions and appreciate his advice.

listen here are the facts. He is a difficult professor. However He is clear and lectures are concise. minimal book work is needed The difficult math has little to do with calculus (maybe 1 question per exam) but more with setting up problems which barely does in class. IT IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO FIGURE OUT THE SETUPS IT JUST TAKES TIME

Comment:
The tests don't reflect the material covered and is more of a test on proficiency in calculus than the material. You can be well-prepared on the material but still fail the test due to this. Can be condescending at times. Knowledgeable, but overall, I would NEVER recommend him or his classes.

This course is very interesting and prof. Alexeev is extremely knowledgeable. Tests are very hard, but the curves are very generous. He gives you all of the old tests to study, and posts lectures online. Solid course overall, take it if you have any interest in law.

Knowledgeable and passionate. Plus the Russian accent and stutter make for a break from the monotone of the avg econ lecture. Go to class and learn to recognize what is important and what is bonus. Readings are interesting but dense and can be skipped. A bit confusing and has little tolerance for people who don't know what they don't know.

Horrible and ridiculous. Avoid this class. He barely covers any material and expects you to know a lot more.

How do I love econ, let me calculate the ways based on the prime rate! Some loath boredom, others committ suicide because of it. I seek it out. Here there is no lack of it, no dearth of it. Here you may wallow in it, drool-sleep in it. Sweet oblivion! I love this professor!
