You know, I was just going to sit in the back of class and coast through the entire the semester without trying, but then he grabbed that one kid by the throat, force fed him salt water taffy, then hung him by his jeans from the ceiling and used him as a human pinata for saying Ulysses was "weird." It was a great motivator!

Dr. Boyd has John Wayne Gacy's skeleton hanging on the back of his office door, dressed in a sailor suit. When I asked him why, he paused, arched back in his chair, raised his hand to his chin in thoughtful repose, and said, "Well, I always did imagine John as more of the seafaring type." And then he showed me his hot sauce collection. Great prof.

I knew I was in for a treat when Dr. Boyd walked into class wearing nothing but a cowboy hat and a live rattlesnake as a belt. Instead of a syllabus, he cut the throat of a sow sitting in the front row and wrote his expectations on the wall in its' blood. Then we barbecued it and discussed Alice Munro. You'll get an A, but you'll earn it via murder

For the first paper, Boyd had me write an 8-page essay detailing the most horrific murder I could think of. "Spare no details," he twanged. When I got it back, the only comment was, "Now imagine what it's like to live out this fantasy every single day in your mind. Now imagine never being able to fulfill that fantasy. Welcome to EN398." Great guy.

I once ran across Mike Boyd fourteen miles east of Yuma, in the desert. He was wearing an bleached-out cow skull on his head and he was covered in dried blood and offal. I asked him what happened and he replied "Some freshman got lippy." Highly reccommend his classes.

So many of the comments here are negative because so few of the students writing them can handle not being spoon-fed. Dr. Boyd will challenge you and reward you when you deeply engage a text. Not recommended for Education majors (see comments elsewhere on this page), but great for serious English majors.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. i have been in love with english since middle school and he single handedly made me hate it. Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He is boring, rude, arrogant, bias, and does not help at all. Talking to him was like talking to a 4 year old child. I have never felt more irritated by a class in my entire life

Boyde is useless human being that is collecting paychecks instead of teaching. He told me that my Shakespeare paper was "crap" gave it back to me and didn't offer any advice or point out my faults. For the most part he used red pen and circled my statements and put question marks throughout! He's a complete A-MOLE!

Alright, so I am an English major and I enjoy english. This class is dismal. He's incredibly dull, he is so devoted to his viewpoints that he will mark you down if your analysis doesn't match his. I had "No You are wrong" written on an essay. The class is the only one that I can barely stay awake through. He is the reason I want the semester to end

This professor is great! He spends a lot of time with the readings. His selection is really good and interesting. I am an English maj and he's one of the best professor's the college has. If you do the work (he doesn't like kiss-asses and lazyness)you'll do fine. If you talk with him about any problems, he'll listen and try to help.

He gets upset when you disagree with him in class. He assigned the most weak, boring, pointless novels. I am an english major and love literature, but his books are lame. They all seem to be about characters that I have no reason to care about. They are weak books, and lets just say I know why this Texan is teaching in Massachusetts. 'Nuff Said
