I've taken a couple of courses with him. I guess you wouldn't really have to read, but he makes things sound so interesting that you'll want to. He also creates great classroom decorum, very causal and conversational. First grade might be tough, but it's easy to figure out what he's looking for after a bit.

Coyle's obsessed with jazz and the '20s but it's nice to take a class with a professor who's so passionate about the subject. He is a little pretentious, but if you can get past that he has some really interesting stuff to say. He loves helping students, encourages people to come to office hours. Class participation is big though. Hard to get an A.

Very relaxed and chill guy, gives out many B's and B+'s. Class is mostly poetry (which he doesn't tell anyone) and he tries to connect everything to The Waste Land. Not one of my favorite professors (he's pretty disorganized and bad at giving back papers), but overall not too bad of a guy or class.

Professor Coyle is amazing. I had no interest in Jazz Age before i took this class, but it has been my favorite class so far! he is funny and extremely entertaining and full of surprises. easy grader too

If you are interested in poetry, take any class with Coyle. It's true that he's a little pretentious, but he has very valid reasons to be so. Having taken most professors in this department, I really think he is the most willing/enthusiastic to help out his students. Great guy, don't miss it.

When you first meet Coyle, you think he is brilliant. Then you realize that he is just unbelievable arrogant. He is nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is. Classes go in circles. He swears all the time and has an annoying habit of saying one word in a sentence really loudly. He is also really sleazy. Only take him if you can handle the ego.

at first, this class seemed like it was full of work, but trust me i barely put any effort into this class and came out with B+. imagine what i could've gotten if i had put some effort in. hahaha take this man! 2 papers, 1 midterm (for my class, he exempted us), & 1 final.

Class was pretty easy, all poetry so not much reading. Only had 2 papers and we could attend a conference instead of taking the final. I didn't put much effort into this class and still did well. Coyle is a nice guy, class wasn't very structured but if you like discussing poetry it was pretty good.
