Awesome professor. Reading load is heavy, but his lectures are hilarious and he has a great personality. He really cares about students and is great at working with people who put effort into class and go to his office hours. Take a class with him if you want to have fun and challenge yourself!

Comment:

Most people love Drout for his great and humorous personality. However it is important to note that there is TONS of reading in all his classes. I don't think I could finish any of them in the given time period all semester, and ended up BSing my way to a B+. But he is always ready to help if you go to office hours. Plus, he brings a corgi to work.

Drout was a GREAT teacher. He was really lively, he was engaged with the students, and he was just a lot of fun. He's a hard paper grader, but that's just because he's so well researched in his field. Strongly recommend taking a class with him if you want to have fun and challenge yourself!

Drout's Anglo-Saxon class is a language-lover's paradise. He's beyond enthusiastic about the subject and beyond dedicated to teaching; the man wrote his own grammar book for the class because he felt other books weren't clear enough. It's not easy, but he'll give you all the help you need if you're willing to work at it. Also, he's hilarious.

The best professor I have ever had the pleasure to study with, hands down. Whoever commented that Drout doesn't speak to you after class- that when he's done, he's done- is mistaken. He is always available during office hours and makes a conscious effort to connect with his students. He is a stellar teacher.

This guy is really quite overrated. He's enthusiastic, but doesn't promote actual "literary study", or at least not in the class I took with him. Manuscript history, theological study, cultural study, sure, but very little appreciation of the actual words on the page. Also, at the end of class he will not talk to you. When he's done, he's done.
