Wow, Gillum's class is a hard one. I had Sophie Mills before this class and she is definitely not a tease. Gillum expects a lot, but gives little. He gives assignments over break and on weekends. He gives dull assignments. He is smart, and capable, but expects a lot. He looks at his watch constantly in class. Approach with caution. GO TO CLASS.

Is knowledgeable and funny, but kind of crotchety (as was previously stated) and unyielding in his attendance policy. Expects a lot, but doesn't give a lot. You'll get a terrible grade, no matter how hard you try. You get the distinct impression he teaches because he needs the money, not because he loves teaching. Willing to give extensions!

Gillum is knowledgable, but that is where his merit as a teacher ends. He took the already potentially dry subject of humanities and made it unbearably boring. He also did very little to prepare us for the tests, giving us only a list of concepts, not all of which would appear on the test, and the test included some things not on the study guide.

In my experience Gillum was a horrible professor who at every turn tried to belittle me and the other students in our classes opinion. Please do not take a class with this man you will not only regret it but your gpa WILL suffer.

Average. Opinionated with a very dry but good sense of humor. Is somewhat crotchety but fair. Material isn't especially hard, and class isn't especially interesting. Took him for honors and all we did was discuss. Reading is optional, skimming is recommended. Hum is not his favorite to teach, but just agree with him and try not to argue deep topics

I urge everyone reading this to NOT TAKE GILLUM for any humanities course. He does not understand anything on the subject except for his very opinionated analysis of paintings & sculpture. Boring, dull, & biased...you will not have a holistic understanding of anything, but he will expect you to for his ridiculous final exams. STAY AWAY

I didn't really like his class that much. He's a really nice guy outside of the classroom, but I feel like he interprets poetry in a very strict manner. I felt like he disagreed with everything I said which isn't exactly a productive learning setting.

Had Gillum for lit 241 and 321. He is fairly easy to get an A- from, but I have only ever gotten an A on 1 paper. However, he keeps the reading light, has easy tests, and has a dry and perverse sense of humor which can't be beat. He is amazingly smart.

extremely knowledgeable. Show up, and read the texts and you will do just fine. Even if you don't read everything. Took me a few weeks to get used to his personality but as the semester has progressed I have quite enjoyed listening to his lectures in class. He is ALWAYS prepared and does expect a certain amount of preparation on your part. fair gra

Very smug. Very rude. Kind of hard not to take that personally. I feel bad to say this but he just appears to be more of an obstacle to overcome in the department rather than a professor. Taking him is like being hazed before you can graduate.

Dr. Gillum is very much an odd ball and an old cook but he is extremely intelligent and passionate and a very great teacher. He?s not too hard but you have to read and do the work. He also has a great sense of humor and really knows his stuff.

Some people have issues with Gillum, but I think he's a pretty funny old guy. He laughs when things get dirty in the texts, and seeing him giggle like that makes it worth it. I didn't have a problem with his tests or papers, but a good number of people in my class did, but most said that he was willing to help you out. Still, could get BORING.

I will give it to the man, he knows his stuff. But he is WAY to demanding and hard. I have never failed a test in my LIFE until this class. Work load is heavy but hes not to bad on the grading. Just the actual tests are HARD.. When I asked for something to do to help my grade on the test, he said withdrawl or take better notes... who does that?

Dr. Gillum is a very knowledgable professor. He is very well-versed in his field. His teaching style, however, is about as interesting as a blank wall at night. He also seemed to have a large degree of smugness about him. I don't know where this comes from or why, but his smiles all hint at a superior-seeming hidden monologue.

I thought Gillum was awesome. He humiliated everyone in the class at least once (including myself), but you've got to hand it to the man, he knows his stuff. Okay so he can be a little overzealous in terms of the amount of material we have to learn, but give me a break we're paying thousands of dollars each semester to LEARN!

Gillum shuts down dumb ****s quite frequently (as well as smart ones sometimes), so naturally if you're a dumb **** don't take him. Say intelligent things in class and write decent papers and you'll be fine.

very unclear. schmuck!!!! but he'll give you the grade you deserve especially if you talk to him. his course load for a general ed is WAY too heavy. he loves class discussion but does nothing to provoke it. he's kinda ****ed. weird. loves individualized ideas.

Conceited, condescending, very boring.Acts annoyed to be in class or take questions. Doesnt seem to care for students no sympathy toward those needing help. Never had such a rude prof. I didnt learn a thing all semester in his class. I had to force myself to go, and it was a subject I loved

He definately knows the material (which means you can't expect to get away with much). Heavy courseload, but man, do you learn a lot. Not a very entertaining lecturer.
