The class discussion is really great and offers a lot of time to share opinions and analysis while still teaching the material. THERE IS A LOT OF READING, but the writing is fair with a weekly reflection and occasional paper. Some quizzes, but there has yet to be an exam.

Comment:

Hes a great professor whos very passionate and knowledgeable about History but assigns a lot of readings and if you dont do them then youll struggle. Hes really cool to talk to so dont be afraid to ask him questions! His lectures were boring but besides that he will challenge you in a good way to better help improve yourself.

Comment:

Groth is a decent Professor but he is a pretty tough grader and he's not very lenient so if you don't understand something ASK HIM. Also be aware of pop up quizzes, most are based on the readings he assigned. But the class itself is not what I expected,I was so excited to take the class but was unmotivated & nonchalant by the end of the semester.

Tough grader and assigns a long research paper and pop quizzes, but he's easy to understand, makes you engaged even if you're confused, and makes sure you don't fall behind. Very funny and interesting.

I wanted to be a History major before I met this man. He was so ruthless in grading and offered no help what so ever. I had private meetings with him on four separate occasions usually the days after I got my papers back. Same thing "I need more detail". I guess he wanted me to be quoting the texts the entire paper.

I got to sit in on one of his classes when I applied and it was his class that convised me that Wells was for me. I took his classes every year except one. My senior year he offered the class I got to sit in on and I was thrilled. I found him to be so passionite.

He's like the Leave-It-To-Beaver dad. Cheesy laugh and smile, cute as a button. Amazing class. Interesting reading and discussion. Fair grading on papers. Asked too much of us on exams though. All around good professor!

I took a class with Prof. Groth my first semester more by accident than anything else. Because of that class, I reconsidered switching my major to history - he's that good. No other professor at Wells showed as much passion as Prof. Groth and he is so good at teaching. Very interesting classes, fascinating topics, hands down favorite teacher.

Professor Groth is not only helpful and encouraging, but also very brilliant. Although the classes I have taken with him are only survey classes, he still expects a lot from his students, and knowing that you can always push yourself even further is a great attribute to acquire for life.

Excellent Class. Wonderful professor. Really you can't do any better than the G-Man at Wells. He is a lot of fun. He knows what he is talking about and he is very helpful. Always willing to sit down and talk about anything. Highly recommeded. I would give him a 10 if possible.
