Took him for an interdisciplinary honors seminar. Nice professor. Goes on a lot of tangents that are irrelevant to the course. Mandatory attendance. Readings are long and difficult but you don't really have to read the whole thing (just know the main point). 4 short reaction papers and a thesis - not bad.

Sports in American Culture; This is the worst class I have ever taken. The name/topic of the class makes it sound interesting and it has the potential to be but prof Rockland does an awful job. If he's not talking about himself, he is on a completely unrelated tangent. So unorganized I couldnt/ didnt know what to take notes on. Dont take Rockland.

I took an Interdisciplinary Honors Seminar (America as a Celebrity Culture). He throws his political views into a lot of conversations, although it was during the time of the election. 4 short papers on readings (which are sooo long, but you don't really have to read them, just understand), one final paper. Eh, he's a nice guy, I guess.

One of the most interesting people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Genuinely sad the semester ended. Whole class got up to give him a hug on the last day. Fun material, fun class discussions, fun field trips, just a great class taught by a great teacher.

Great Professor! I took two classes with him this year and loved his teaching style. The class meets twice a week, you do not have to take notes, and as long as you show up and have some idea of the readings and about America you will do great. Rockland is very helpful and understanding, and will work with you if you're struggling.

Professor Rockland is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only does he make the class enjoyable to sit through, but he enjoys teaching the subject (no matter which one it is). He enjoys getting to know students, and will help in any way he can to get you through the class. The classes are not filled with stress, but you learn a lot

Professor Rockland is one of the greatest professors I've had at Rutgers. Classes are often discussion based rather than him lecturing -- although his lectures are really funny/entertaining -- so you're only making the class boring for yourself if you don't do the reading. His goal is to teach and help you appreciate American Studies. A+ professor

Professor Rockland is, hands down, one of the most interesting professors I have had the pleasure of taking a class with here at Rutgers. He is helpful, interesting, and the classes are very meaningful. The class is as difficult as you make it. If you show up to class, and you will want to, you will do fine. I recommend taking any class he teaches.

- Attendance is mandatory - Lectures are boring and off-topic - The words out of his mouth are your handwritten notes - Exams are based on quotes from the novels assigned, as well as "important" statements he makes in lectures Professor Rockland is a nice guy and has historical experiences, but his class was boring and filled with randomness.

Rockland is, without exaggeration, the best professor I have had at Rutgers University. His lectures are fun and funny, his abundant life experiences illustrate what you are learning. He is simply a very interesting man and a really nice guy. I have also read several of his books and they are wonderful. It was a privilege to take his courses.

Dr. Rockland is amazing. I appreciate not only WHAT I learned, but, what I think is more important, is HOW he taught me to think critically. Interesting readings: De Tocqueville is someone I've always told myself I'd read but never did until this class, and "Changing Places" is one of the funniest books I've ever read. Awesome class.

An extremely interesting Professor, with life experiencewise words second to none. The coursework is interesting and engaging, you really have to pay attention as he often puts small details on quizzes. He is tough on due dates but gives a lot of notice. A very supportive Professor who is more than happy to help with outlines and ideas for papers.

I took several courses with Professor Rockland during my time at Rutgers. I still keep in touch with him, as I was inspired by his teachings. Listen, do the readings, make yourself known, and Professor Rockland will help you succeed and teach you everything he knows. Especially take his courses if you're looking to improve your writing skills!

Professor Rockland was one of the most inspirational professors I had at Rutgers University. He is open to new suggestions by his students and will help them in any way possible. Through anecdotes he often adds a personal interesting perspective to class material. I really enjoyed the reading material (mostly newspaper articles and novels).

worst professor I've ever had in my entire life I hate the thought of going to his class but you literally have to because the only notes you have are what comes out of his mouth...which is a lot of random junk..he's also fallen asleep in class 3 times this semester so there's that

This class is pretty useless. Rabbles on about himself, and he's not as interesting as he thinks he is. All i know from this class is that he's written a ton of books no one has heard of, he's from morristown, and obama is the greatest thing ever. still, got a B, and did NOTHING all semester
