If ur looking to take a class tht makes you understand & appreciate British literature, dont take Brit Lit I with this guy. 2 tests tht are 33% of grade require u to remember crazy tiny details from various dense books. For part 1 of final he provided just 4 lines from 31 poems & 4 books we had to name the title/author of. Grades 2 papers harshly.

For a classic which has a 33% participation grade, this guy sure does talk a lot. Promises ample time for student input in class, then goes off on tangents long tangents about the piece of literature that usually have little depth. Never took an ENG course with so little analysis; a MT/Final being completely memorization based is a joke.

The class is graded on two 2-3 page papers and two tests. The papers have very vague prompts, but Sharp is only looking for specific papers as answers to the prompts. The tests asks HYPER specific questions on hundreds of pages of content. Most questions are random trivia that is almost exclusively not mentioned in class. Take this in the Spring!

Sharp is incredibly smart. He's definitely snarky at times, but only if you deserve it and it's never mean. So funny and he deviates from the subject matter at times, drawing connections to extremely interesting things. The class isn't the easiest, but as long as you read thoroughly you'll be fine. A really great professor, highly recommended.

Comment:
I probably wouldn't like Sharp as much if I wasn't so interested in the material. He wanted us to know a lot of detail about the comics for the test. At one point, he told us he threw in really hard questions for fun just to see who would get them right. That was really annoying to hear for obvious reasons. Good lectures, just study a lot.

Professor Sharp loves to talk and talk! For most time, students are seated to hear what he says (he just can't stop spitting out words, actually) and even some students want to say something, he won't allow them to speak up. He does respect students, though. Comic books which were used as textbooks were fine works, but you'd better read them alone.

Professor Sharp is not everyone's cup of tea, but I didn't find him too bad. Clear grading criteria and expectations. Tests aren't hard if you study a couple days in advance and take notes.

Sharp is a nice guy and likes to try to make older material more palatable. He talks a lot, which is probably his biggest flaw. He'll say he's going to frame to class toward discussion and then go on half-hour tangents, and he really likes his own voice and sense of humor. He is very idiosyncratic with the way he structures the course.

Comment:
The biggest problem with Michael Sharp is that his 2 exams (one for each half of the semester) are fill in the blank/multiple choice based on trivia facts from the book, such as 'What business did Charles Moulton's lover's aunt own'. He also never answers his emails and will randomly cancel class, sometimes after you've waited 15 minutes.

Do NOT take a class with this guy. SOooo arrogant, loves to hear himself talk, doesn't seem to see his students because he is blinded by his own ego. Had to switch out of his class 2 weeks in because the vibes were so awful and I didn't think I'd be able to bear the class for a whole semester.

I had high hopes coming into this class because I had heard good things about Sharp, but honestly don't waste your time. Sharp is a tough grader to the point of unfairness, he told us not to be too specific on a test but then i got points off for not beings specific enough. He also likes to rant and go on tangents.

This class worried me the most because he treats the upper-level aspect of it very seriously. LOTS of reading, two tests worth 25% each, two papers and a journal. Very picky about writing and the tests require a lot of memorization from books/poems and the history book. Entertaining lecturer, intense class culture. Surprised I passed.

He's a cool guy and likes to joke around, but the way the class was set up made it difficult to do really well. We were only graded on 4 assignments the whole semester, two of these being very difficult exams.

The class procedure was fair. The readings were spread out and the grading criteria for the semester was understood from the beginning. As for the class itself, the professor made it unbearable. Interrupts students, doesn't let them speak, thinks his opinion is the only correct one. Worst thing: He grades papers on aspects he had said he wouldn't.

Comics: Really nice guy, very willing to cancel class. Lectures were interesting and engaging. As he'll probably say in the first class, "If you can't get in to reading comic books, then I don't know what to tell you." Papers and exams weren't easy, but they are easy to study for.

I wasn't a fan of the way he lectured us all class, but he is an incredibly smart man and he clearly loves what he does. If you ask a question he will give a full explanation. Just do the reading and show up for the index cards. The final project makes up for the line recognition you may miss on the tests. But you must put in the work to get the A.

Probably one of my favorite professors here at BU. He is such an every day guy and has a sarcastic sense of humor that as long as you aren't sensitive, you will find him awesome! The class was very interesting because you respected him because he trusts you to do the work. Since there was no homework or tests, and I recommend him to anyone at BU.

Sharp loves to talk and often went off topic on tangents, but made never went over time with lectures. Only homework given was reading and no tests. Considering the subject matter, he makes the class tolerable.
