Comment:
The lectures are not posted online so it is mandatory to go to class. Extra credit points are given away every lecture. You must read the book, even if it is just skimming. Midterms are fairly easy, he even recycles the questions on the 2nd midterm and final.

you absolutely do need to attend class because he goes over info that is otherwise not posted online. His tests were fair, M/C & a couple free response questions. gives you past tests to study from & the questions are very similar. Homework due every week but it's quite easy, just tedious. gives extra credit if you participate in lecture!

There is a lot of requirements for this class. You must read not just the 2 textbooks but also ALL of the articles he posts on his class website. With each passing year, the number of articles increases. By the time I had this class there was over 100 articles, most of which was just about religion not economic approach to religion.

Prof was super clear and easy to understand. material is easy, if u have questions, hes useless. not very friendly & doesnt seem to care about students. GO TO CLASS FOR THE EXTRA CREDIT PTS. TA jerrod was super nice and friendly and was very helpful when u have questions. he brought cookies to class one day.

I thought this class would be really interesting; I was wrong. Material is very boring. Questions on tests and homework were ambiguous, and he asks the same questions with different wording which makes you second-guess yourself. He made is test questions really confusing. Books were all common sense, but you must read them to pass the tests

He has a power complex. He demands that students speak with clarity in class discussions but his assigned homework has questions that are almost always ambiguous and then grades the homework in absolute terms without considering how poorly he wrote the questions. Even when approached he is not responsive. Speaks with good diction though.

Overall a good professor. A little boring, but perhaps it?s due to the structure of the class. Does not offer extra credit, but grades fairly. Requires a few presentations, very basic.

He definitely required way too much work and reading for a lower division class. There are only 25 questions on the midterms & only 2 people got A's on them. Some questions are subjective while others are clear. The homework was tedious and time-consuming. He doesn't post slides either, so lectures are mandatory.

This class is pretty hard. He is quite annoying if you don't enjoy the subject because he leaves the students to teach themselves a lot of the more advanced concepts after going over one or two easy examples. Average final score: 65%. If you work full time like me you'll despise McBride's class by the first midterm.

interesting for an 8 am class. gotta study hard for your grade though. exams are tricky. TAs are helpful on homework. must attend lecture or you'll be thoroughly confused. go to lecture, do the homework, and you'll be fine.

This class is pretty easy since it's lower division. You actually do have to do the reading or you'll miss about 5 questions on each midterm. He's kind of repetitive sometimes, but when you ask him to clarify something he'll make sure you get it before moving on. Easy extra credit, too.

A rad teacher, and the most engaging lecturer I've ever had at 8 AM. His exams can be unintentionally tricky or tedious since he makes up games for them. There is a heavy focus on intuition which can be tough for some, but he is helpful to those who struggle. I'd recommend the class. Game theory is fun.

Always very professional and clear in explaining ideas. He did an excellent job presenting material and always had the class open to discussions and questions. This class definitely expands your horizons about looking at the topic of religion. I'm gonna try to take McBride again for game theory.

This is one of the best professors at UCI. His classes are hard, but if you make an effort to understand you can get a good grade on it. He gives a lot of participation points and the grading scale is in increments of 15 %. The homeworks are harder than the tests, so if you understand them, you should do well on the exams.

I'm aking Econ 17, and its the first time ever taught, and he did a pretty good job. He clarifies all his points, sometimes too much. M/C tests. No math. Tests are okay but annoyingly riddled with "none of the above" choices. Class makes you think about church and all things differently. Class is pretty P/C and doesn't insult religion.

Obviously there are a lot of geeks in this class. If you are not taking your major seriously, there is no need to take this class. It is difficult and only the true econ junkees will master it. if you just want to take a class to fill a requirement and to get a good grade, this isn't the class for you

Dont know why people didnt like him. Game theory is an abstract topic, so you need to put in the effort to understand it. Once you grasp the concept, the math is pretty simple. The homework is hard, but that's why the TA goes over it, and test questions are easier than the HW questions. Also, grading scale is 15% instead of the usual 10%

Worst economics professor at uci. Again, avoid at all cost. His homework is difficult and so are his tests. The textbook doesn't help at all and makes this class more difficult than it is. Fine he wants you to think, but how can you when his lectures only help with one part of the question on the homework. He sucks!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS

very interesting and makes you think and interact during lecture, sometimes he gives extra credit for participating or catching his mistakes, which was good because he is a pretty tough grader! i attended every lecture, every office hour, every discussion, studied like no other and i barely got an A-. discussions were very helpful for the hw!
