My experience with this professor is not very positive. Although he is extremely passionate about his work and likes to make jokes... he does not post slides, I am a 3rd year student and have yet to take a course like his.

Dr. Vance is a great lecturer. He explains things very well in class and in a way that makes you understand it. He doesn't post slides after class, so you can't skip if you want the notes. Also, his marking of tests tend to be quite particular. He expects a thorough answers, so make sure you know a lot of details about the subject. Great guy though

This professor is so lovely. He really loves what he teaches! His lectures are not boring but you do need to tune into what he is saying as he does not post slides online. A lot of reading to do in the textbook. An overall lovely guy who cracks jokes in class. He lets you bring in a page of notes into your exams too

Vance is an extraordinary prof. He is passionate about what he teaches, includes critical perspectives to colonization which is refreshing but he is a tough marker on written assignments. His tests are easy to do if you go to class and he allows a page of notes double sided in every test/exam. He's funny, kind, intelligent, and he loves his field

This prof is amazing, he lets you take a sheet of notes into each exam and has really clear grading criteria. I've taken 3 classes with him. He loves what he does and is a passionate historian. He doesn't post lecture notes online so if you don't plan on going to class then his classes probably aren't for you.

Great Prof and knows what he's talking about. Will not post notes so don't skip class. Also knowing stuff from the textbook is great for his exams, just to add in abit of extra knowledge. Also allows you to bring in a page of notes to the test so that's great.

One of my favourite profs, he's very helpful very understanding, he's lectures are clear and actually interesting. One requirement is you actually have to show up to class in order to pass the class, because notes are not posted. Overall i would recommend, had a great semester with him, I would definitely take any other courses he offers.

Great prof! 100% recommend, it's very obvious he knows what he is talking about, very helpful, i was never bored in his class. Honestly if your someone who dose not like history, he will make it interesting. And if you actually show up to class it's basically guaranteed your going to pass.

Awesome Proff! He allows a full piece of paper, back and front, of notes for tests and the final. His tests are all based off of stuff discussed in class so if you show up you will do great. The outline for the project was a bit clouded but he's readily available outside of class for questions. Overall, I hate history and really enjoyed this class!

One of my favorite profs at SMU. Didn't really use the textbook, just for additional readings. He is helpful and clear on what he expects and wants for assignments, and is very willing to help you if you ask. His lectures are engaging and you can tell he really knows his stuff! Doesn't post notes online though, so you have to attend class.

Not a bad guy, but one of the worst courses iv taken. Way heavy on the homework for a 2000 level course, in a term I was taking two 3000 level. Expect 10 page paper and 3000 word bibliography +. Lectures are vague and he does not post them. The book is mostly useless he just refers to it in passing. Many people shocked by there low marks. No Fun.

My absolute favorite prof! His courses are always interesting and informative. He is a hard marker but is VERY clear what he wants and is so willing to help and answer questions. I had a few issues that caused me to miss work and he is always so understanding as long as you ask and are interested in the material.
