I was going to go on his field school next summer but I heard horrible stories about them from previous students. I think these precious reviews were written by Jarvis, they're not real!

I had for Archaeology in Early America and he is well versed in the subject. His lectures were clear and interesting and his grading was fair, but from what I could tell his grading varies depending on what he expects from a particular student.

Best professor at UR. Funny, fair, amazing lecturer. Makes you work for your grade, but this is easy to do if you follow the syllabus, which he sticks to. Very professional and interested. This is my second class with him and I can't wait for a third. I enjoyed learning.

Prof. Jarvis is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about and loves what he teaches. The course can be difficult but staying up with the reading, attending class, and taking good notes will keep you up with the class.

Prof. Jarvis is very passionate about his subject. If you like history, you will like Jarvis. Downside: the syllabus says there are no papers, but each test (4 total) involves a "take-home essay section" a.k.a. a paper. Don't be fooled!

Introduced himself as Snape the first day, but he's the farthest from Snape you could imagine. Great prof, super interesting, very clear about what he wants from you on exams/papers. Only drawback is mandatory attendance.

I only had Jarvis for Maritime Atlantic 301W, but he was great. A little hard at first with all the reaction papers, but his class was lots of fun. Very helpful and enthusiastic.

Professor Jarvis picked the best kind of history to specialize in: early American colonies in the Caribbean/ Bermuda colonies. So whenever he has to go "study in the field" he goes somewhere with great weather and a beach! Pirates, arrrrrr!

Probably my favorite professor thus far. Very helpful, clear, and engaging. I've taken both 100 and 300 level courses and found him to be a tough but fair grader. He makes himself available to students and appears genuinely interested in their enjoyment and progress in the courses he teaches. I'd recommend any class taught by him.

He's a pretty chill dude. Did well at first and must have fallen asleep during the Final which is the only reason i didn't get an A. Whatever, he's pretty nice and fair...he makes US history easy to swallow even for the most reluctant. Also, go on the field trip @ the end of the year.

History can sometimes be a boring topic, but Jarvis made it pretty interesting. His use of multimedia within lectures was a nice touch and helped make the class much more visual. Jarvis knows basically everything there is to know about US history, which is a great asset. If you have to take a history course, take it with Jarvis.

Jarvis is the man. Really smart and knowledgable about the topic. For sure, one of the best classes I've had at UR. He turned me into a history major. He also has some pretty funny little quips.

He spent about 3 days talking about Haiti, because he had pictures of his trip there, and about half a day talking about the Consititution in an Early American history class. Class was reading, memorizing, taking a test. Do the work = get a good grade. I got a D+. My bad
