Comment:

Came to the class with no programming experience. Lectures were hard to follow. Had to read the book and teach myself. He's very knowledgeable, but his teaching isn't a step-by-step manner for beginners like me need. I don't like that the only 2 grades are the midterm & the final. If you do bad on the midterm, you might as well drop the class.

The LAZIEST teacher I have EVER had. No homework. No projects. No quizzes. Only a mid term and a final test. And there is no programming on the tests, because they are multiple choice. So, he literally does not have to grade at all. Oh, and no review or any hint of what will be on the tests. Just study the 3 inch book he wrote that you had to buy.

Comment:

Michael Koepp teaches most all the programming related courses at WCC. While personally he is a great and knowledgeable programmer, his teaching ability is limited. The text book is written by him, and it is very thorough, but there is virtually no classroom instruction nor explanation. You will need to be self sufficient and motivated to succeed.

I was really interested in programing before taking this class. However after i took it i decided that i hate programing. Jus sits there and type the code and blabs about random stuff in between. Doesnt teach the concepts just tells you what to do not why you do it that way. Dont take him.

I went into the class with virtually no knowledge of how to use the programs. He didn't explain anything besides 'now type in INT here'... and didn't explain to us what INT even was. I can see how he might be a good programmer... but how did he ever get a position as a teacher?? I DO NOT suggest taking his class unless you already know your stuff.

It would be nice if he SHOWED UP on time. Every day, the entire class would wait outside for about half the class period waiting for him to get there. And once he got there, he wasn't exactly any help (the only reason I got anything out of the class was because the guy next to me knew what he was doing). Needless to say, I dropped the class.

Mike is an excellent programmer and really knows his stuff, it's just that he can't teach very well. When he teaches, he seems to often drift onto rabbit trails and over-explains a subject, so that we all get bored, tune out of the class, and later go "Huh, now how'd he do that again?". The trick is to ask questions and show interest in the class.

Maybe good programmer but lousy teacher. Probably okay... if you are already a programmer. Wrote the textbook and then put in on the screen and read out of it. In class examples of programming were pretty good but needs to use more creative examples, not just repeat the book, when explaining concepts.

This guy is fun to have. If you have no previous programming experience this class will be challanging, but anyone can get an A with a bit of elbow grease and good attendance. He was often around in office hours to discuss in-class projects.

Easy class, flexible on hand-in dates, assignments are similar to in class examples which he helps you do, (change a thing or two around and you have your homework done in class). Lectures are straight from the book, read the material beforehand, and you'll look really smart

very easy class, with a little outside work. my only complaints with his teaching style are that the examples he does in class are pretty useless if you don't have a laptop/handwrite programs, and that it takes him 5 minutes to explain how/why to correct a typo. good teacher--i had never programmed before, but now am decent at it.

idiot! I didn't learn a thing. Easy credits. NO homework! Have to study for 2 tests though cuz he didn't cover everything on em. 1 super easy pop quiz. Spent class time doing homework for other classes. Didn't keep track of attendance. Easiest class to skip.

Had him for 3 courses. He's knowledgable. I liked my C# classes with him. BUUUT, the Java class I took, he taught mostly J# crap. Don't take this course! He often came to Java class ILL PREPARED and spent lots of time troubleshooting his own code. Could spend a entire class barely learning a thing. Made us do a SMTP project he barely understood.

Class is quite easy. I've yet to even take a signle note and still have a 100%. Koepp is an utter moron in class though. Half the time he needs help from the class to figure out how to do sumthin. Like he tried to adjust the projector by using the controls on his LCD Screen...

Really easy! But the problem is that he basically just reads from the textbook. So attendance is required, but if you just read the textbook you really don't need to be there. However if you don't like to read and want easy classes take from him...good concepts and I'm learning things.

If you are self motivated and reasonably intelligent then these classes are a breeze. I think the people who had trouble failed to take initiative and relied too much on the lectures. His lectures are great if you've read and are familiar witthe material.
