Don't expect to get an easy A with minimal work. You will work for your grade, but you will learn a TON. Dr. Shadis is a great lecturer and is really willing to help you if you ask for it. This was a difficult class, but I am glad that I took it and I am glad that I had Dr. Shadis!

Dr. Shadis is very bland, and her lectures are difficult to follow. I have left every lecture with a cramping hand and five pages of notes.

The class in and of itself is hard; so much material has to be covered, and her method of covering it isn't that great. There are so many notes and the tests are a lot. My TA made the class bearable. It's a good class if you're a history major, but avoid it otherwise.

Tests are extremely difficult and all essay and short answer questions. Expects you to have prior knowledge of the things she teaches even though it is an intro class. Uses powerpoints but test material is mainly over what she says and primary sources

Overall a nice lady but she is really disorganized and all over the place with her lecture slides. The study guides are long and her tests ask questions that don't appear on the guide. She can be a picky grader, she asks broad questions on test and expects specific answers. textbook was free, didnt read it. class isnt hard, just boring at times.

Dr. Shadis is by far my favorite professor. During my undergrad career, she helped me and challenged me to be the best student I could be. Her material is interesting and really helps you understand why people of different relgions conflict today due to what happened in the past. The books she assigns to read are interesting and read like novels.

Dr. Shadis knows a lot about Medieval history and it shows in her lectures, she tries her best to make the timelines clear and keep lectures interesting. There are a lot of readings, but most are found in PDF on her Blackboard. Be sure to read these selections and take good notes in class, and class will go smoothly. She's very understanding.

I've had two classes with Dr. Shadis and she is one of the best professors in the History department at OU. The reading for this course was pretty light and interesting, but you definitely have to do it. Her lectures are interesting and engaging. This is her area of expertise so she is very excited about it which makes for great lecture.

This class is rough, but Dr. Shadis is great. She's super helpful and willing to meet with students individually to help you out. She has high expectations and she's a tough grader, but her comments and help really influenced my final paper. This was the most rewarding class I've taken at OU!

Dr. Shadis's classes are some of the hardest I have taken as an undergrad, but also some of the most rewarding. This class is a lot of work, and you definitely need to come to class everyday and do the readings throughly. But, Dr. Shadis is a great professor and very helpful if you prove you are willing to do the work.

This course is a ton of work no matter who you take it with, but Shadis is a great option. She is very helpful when you are choosing your research topic and willing to meet individually with you to make sure you know what you are doing. Her expectations are high, but it's worth it!

Shadis is an excellent professor. The course is difficult and you will need to work hard but as long as you do the expected readings and pay attention in class you will be fine. Very knowledgeable and willing to help with papers and other questions. TAKE HER CLASSES.

Expect to do A LOT of work in this class. You have to do the readings for discussions otherwise you wont do well. Her exams are horrible. The study guide is miserably long and at the beginning of class she says just study overarching themes but in reality she picks the most tiny details from class and expects you to write in great detail.

Very disorganized. Doesn't seem to know much of the information and nothing she actually goes over is on the exam and she makes you read these old excerpts that do not pertain to the testing material. You never know your grade and it didn't help that my TA was awful. Do not take her class and I'm a history major.

Shadis is obviously very knowledgeable about the topic, so much so that sometimes I had no idea what she as talking about. Her tests are hard and the reading load is heavy, but you come out of her classes having learned a lot. I'd recommend her, but only if you're fairly serious about the class.

Shadis is awful. She's not very interesting, her power points aren't helpful, her exams are too difficult for an introductory level history class. I enjoyed my graduate student TA and learned much more from her than I did from Shadis. Shadis is helpful if you contact or email her, and she's probably a decent human being, but don't take the class.

Powerpoints barely scraped the surface for the material needed for the tests. She wasn't a bad teacher, but she set up the class in a way that didn't help anyone. Don't take her.

Her classroom slideshows are pointless because nothing she says is on the tests. Her class is so hard that its almost like she wants everyone to fail. She complains when students ask her to go back to slides so they can finish copying the notes. Avoid Hitler as much as possible

I enjoyed The History of the Crusades very much! There is more than usual a mounts of reading. I loved the books though especially Claster and liked reading about the events of the wars. Chronology is very important in this class for quizzes and tests. If you write down the dates and places as you read it is easier. Will take her again!
