If you're able to, I STRONGLY suggest avoiding taking any course taught by this professor. This prof is not only a tough marker but she follows no grading criteria, she takes MONTHS to mark assignments, and does not answer emails or communicate with students; the class repeatedly complained to the department and she didn't even show up to our exam.

Comment:

This class was a major disappointment. It's a 2nd year course but she speaks like you're working on your masters, expecting you to know terms and rarely elaborating. And if she does elaborate, it's vague. PLEASE heed this warning. I didn't and it is costing me grades. Her seminars are long-winded with zero room for disagreeing. Highly disappointed.

Comment:

She complains about not understanding Moodle and yet simply refuses to learn in the eight months you'll have with her. This results in assignments being given late (or not at all until you remind her) and feedback/grades not being given back until the final week of the year. I agree with what the others have said as well, she is very unorganized.

if she assigns something to you, you will 100% not get it back before the next assignment is due. She is the worst at using the internet and yet refuses to not use it. Always 30 minutes late to class. Will specifically call you out even though she knows you don't know what to say. Don't make eye contact. Don't fall for her smile.

Lets start with she's SOOO unorganized. She had a set syllabus and she doesn't follow it at all. We were supposed to have a quiz in beginning of October, got it in end of November. Her grading sucks. It is now December of a full year course and she has put 5 lectures up... And most importantly she NEVER REPLIES TO ANY EMAILS. Worst class ever.

This was the worst course I have ever taken at York! She never answered any of my emails, was always 30 mins late for class & very unorganized. She doesn't like when people's opinions differ from her own & I found this extremely unprofessional. VERY hard marker, and will interrupt you during presentations to argue with you and critique your work.

I thought she would be distant professor at first but actually once you get to know her,she's a very kind and generous person.She is supportive and caring.I'm glad I took the course,if you're genuinely interested in African fiction she's the best.

One of the least effective profs I have ever had. She is confused and unclear in her seminars. She is completely unapproachable and does not provide any substantial information about the texts. She expects her students to run the class - highly unprepared

This was one of the worst classes I've ever been stuck in! She's incredibly boring, doesn't answer questions, is VERY unapproachable, and a terribly hard marker! I feel I wasted my money on this course.

A very nice prof but fails to deliver a great lecture. A slow talker -- never finishes the material in the one hour lecture period. A lot of time spent on author histories as opposed to textual analysis, although that is made up for in the tutorials.

She is very knowledgeable,unfortunately unapproachable too. She's one of those teachers who is not interested in what you think...you have to know what she thinks because that's what she wants to hear...doeasn't leave much room for different opinions!

She was at first boring as hell, but she really cared about our suggestions for improvement and the second half of the year was awesome. She is a beautiful, poised woman. She does this thing with her eyelids where I SWEAR she has her eyes 99% closed alot!
