Comment:

Professor El-Sayed gets a lot of grief because he teaches at a much higher level than usual. However, I really learned Machine Design well (as well as learning a ton of solids that wasn't taught in solids). His homework is really difficult, but he always gives extensions so you can go over the work with him in class. He also you decide the curve.

Comment:

Professor El-sayed is one of the most knowladgeable persons on the topics that he teaches, and it shows during his lectures. Though he has an accent and is obviously from a different country, his English is very good, and he gets concepts across very well. He prescribes plenty of homework, but all in the name of developing mandatory skills.

Very quiet and hard to pay attention to, never did any examples or explained how to do any problems, quickly talked about each chapter without giving any notes and expected us to know how to do problems. Homework was required and impossible without a solutions manual since you didnt learn anything in his class. Dont take him if you can avoid it

Comment:

Very knowledgeable about the subject. Mandatory homework, which you need in order to learn the topic. He refuses to do any actual examples, when he says lets do an example, he means to read it from the book. Spends most of lectures talking about what you will do as an engineer instead of actual machine design. One of the worst profs I've had.

Dr. El-Sayed knows a lot about machine design, and it is clear that he is an expert. While he is not the clearest teacher in lectures, he is very helpful after class or if you catch him in office hours. Over all he is very fair and sincere.

He is a good guy, but not a great teacher. He has a hard time conveying the information to the class. I thought I was getting a good grade in the class until the end when I got my final grade. I was pretty disappointed with how he graded the final project.

I can see why a lot of people dont care for his lectures (monotone/soft voice) but i felt he was an excellent prof for this class. I picked up just about everything that was still hazy after statics/solids/dynamics and he caters the course to the class. how he does things is basically up to you (within reason).

Super nice guy... but his class is hard to sit through. His voice is very soft and pretty monotone, making a dry subject even drier. Project at the end of the class is pretty insane, coupled with all the other projects we have going at the end of the term. Overall, great guy, but should work on a few things.

Very dry lectures. Really wants to help you learn but he just isn't that good of a teacher. The class isn't that hard, but for a core ME class, I wish I could have learned more. He really seems to know the material, he just has trouble getting it across

This class was cool, he encourages everyone to do there own thing. He dosent grade correctness, he grades effort. Our project was to design a car from scratch. We modeled it and backed it up and did good. That's all you have to do.

Easy prof. if you are independent and don't need someone to hold your hand. He just gives you the assignment and expects you to work out the details and bring him questions when you have them. Grades very fair, wants to know you put time into the work.
