Comment:
Hehas his views on how you should program and does not like it if you use a different method. The class we frustrating and there were two TA's who were helpful but too many students. Monroe was not very helpful unless you did things EXACTLY the way he would do them. I often had to re right my whole project for him to look at it and get help.

although he posts all the lectures online, all you can hear is him coughing, gurgling, or making mouth-noises like someone chewing food sloppily, I wanted to vomit. He can never stay on topic and doesn't explain points well, getting confused himself often. Don't take it.

He's nice, posts all the lectures online so you don't miss anything if you miss class. I didn't find this subject easy by any means, but I'm not a physics major. It's a good gened and he's really friendly and funny. I like him a lot, I'd recommend it.

Rabin is funny and goes off on some pretty interesting tangents, and he's always more than willing to clarify something. He posts all his lectures online too, so you can skip class and still do fairly well.

Comment:
I took relativity with Rabin and loved it. As a non-physics major, I thought he did an excellent job of explaining something as abstract and often non-intuitve as relativity without dumbing it down at all. Great sense of humor, very helpful if you have questions about material, accomodating if you need to make something up, nice person in general.

Rabin is a great teacher. He manages to get some humor into his lectures which always helps to lighten the atmosphere of the class. Very willing to help outside of class. Highly recommend him as a teacher. Had him for 181,281,550. All great experiences.

This is the 2nd class I've had with him (182 was the other). He's a pretty nice guy with a sense of humor, and was very helpful if you needed someone to help debug your program during class. Lets you redo homeworks for half the credit you lost back, as well.

Comment:
Dr. Rabin has personality, which is not always the case in a physics dept. Physics 182 is an introductory course for Physics Majors! That being said, he expects you to understand how we derive equations... however sometimes does not take time to explain 'what really is going on.' I do not know if this is the case in the Physics 132 et al.

Monroe is a nice person. He lectures using the chalk board. He often goes off on side stories that can be really funny! It makes class fun to go to. Lots of homework was given, and tests were hard, so a lot of effort must be put into the class. The grading scheme was nice and fair! I feel that I got a lot out of this course. Recommended!

Prof Rabin's class was the worst I took at UMass. Granted, physics isn't the most exciting of subjects, but at least I've been able to sit through my other physics classes. Don't take this guy if you want to get a decent grade AND keep your sanity.
