Professor Foster knows a lot but her way of teaching doesn't work because she isn't really clear in her lectures. You print out a bunch of notes and fill them in during class. She sometimes rambles on about other unnecessary things. Come to class; she has clicker questions for attendance.

Foster is a very nice lady but her lectures are next to useless. She spends most of her time on rabbit trails and stories that have nothing to do with material on the tests. I took a class from another chem professor (Roberts) and his lecture was much more helpful. To make things worse her tests are the hardest of any of the Chem sections.

Very passionate about the subject but tends to ramble on about useless facts and stories about whatever she thinks is important to know. Many times she will spend an entire lecture without covering any useful information. She is a nice woman however and is willing to help any student who is struggling.

I had Foster for CHM 30 and 31 and I enjoyed the real enthusiam she has for chemistry. She can relate almost everything you learn to the real world. Print her notes and bring them with you to class. Text is helpful but not required. Because I did well enough, I was able to exempt myself from taking the final, so work hard.

I completely LOVED Foster. It was my first class of the day and she managed to keep me awake. Not many people do it but it is extremely helpful to read the chapters before lecture. However she does explain in detail in lecture. She is always helpful and fair mostly if you show interest.

Foster's enthusiasm and frequent mentions of connections to real world chemistry in lectures usually kept me interested. Has a sort of wacky sense of humor that I found entertaining. Very responsive and seems to truly care about students. Definitely use old exams to study. Labs are easy to get good grades on and are worth a lot, so take advantage.

she's good!! Talks fast though so you hve to pay attention. You will do best if you write your own notes in class and use her notes outside.

hard class, but she helps if you ask. The free response questions on the exam are identical to old tests, but the multiple choice questions are hard

Her lectures are so useless as it only comes down to the exams and lab. The online activities are easy and the lab are the main places where I learned the material best. My most important thought is that she is unsuited to instruct such a large class as she is better at one on one teaching. Her tests are super hard so STUDY!

Class was very difficult. Keep up on your work and you'll be fine. Make sure you prepare. Don't stress out too much because grades usually end up working themselves out... she may tell you she doesn't curve, but she has to.

Bad professor. Although very enthused about the subject, she has trouble clearly explaining the concepts to freshmen. This class would be better off as nothing more than a studio. Exam questions are taken almost directly from studio pre or post labs. The prelab information is also very helpful in clarifying lecture material

Good teacher - tries to get as much as she can into a short 50 min. lecture. The tests are hard but if you pay attention in class and make sure you know the practice exams you should be alright.

N.Foster is notorious for challenging tests. But she is very predictable. Studying from the past exams is a big help (she posts them online prior to the exam). She is very intelligent and knows her stuff but she is a horrible teacher. If you e-mail her she will promptly reply. This was my least favorite class.

Lectures are basically pointless, I learn everything from the book. Makes you buy $35 clickers and then rarely uses them, and when she does its completely pointless. First exam was impossible, second was much easier. She uses maple TA all the time. To her credit, she is very helpful when you contact her by e-mail or see her after class.

She tries to make lecture interesting but it just isn't. Many times HW has nothing to do with lecture. Also notes she gives on internet are terrible. She gives too much over Maple TA. Personally I think she has a brillant mind, however does not teach what she knows well.
