Alper is a great professor. Very interesting material and he does a great job teaching it. I was always shocked when the hour class was up because it went by so quickly. I highly recommend him. There is a one question quiz every week. He takes the average of those, your midterm, and your final and that is your grade. Not bad.

Prof Alper is a harsh grader but if you pay attention in class and study you will do fine. His labor econ class makes you think instead of blindly memorizing and the papers you write are very open ended and force you to take a stand. If you are intimidated by him in class GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He is amazing one on one and will really help you out

Professor Alper is one of those professors who may intimidate you on the first day with his "someone has to fail" curve, but he ensures his students succeed and understand the material. Some professors seem to enjoy failure. However, if you fail or did poorly on ANY test or report, go see him during office hours. You will be happy you did so.

Great professor. If you participate and study hard, an A is pretty easy in Econ of Crime. He is a very accommodating man and available for extra help. He doesn't appreciate rudeness or entitlement, so don't just assume you can show up and expect him to reteach the class. Fascinating material would recommend to anyone

Professor Alper is a great professor and the class is very interesting. I just took his Econ of crime class and it is the best course I've taken at this university so far. He is a challenging professor but it's a good type of challenge. Everyone says it impossible to get an A, but I got one by working harder than most.

He is definitely not one of my favorites. He has a bad attitude (which many other reviews have pointed out). I don't understand why he felt it necessary to act like a jerk towards me while at NEU because I don't ever recall having done anything rude to him.

My least favorite professor at NU- took him for econ of crime and hated it. Not particularly hard but so unpleasant. Avoid him at all costs. He is his own God and avoids answering questions which might call into question his own opinions.

This was for economics of crime. He is a very hard grader, shows interest in teaching but thinks he is greater than everyone else. There is a quiz every week, one final and one midterm. Do not take him, his exams are hard. Don't even bother to speak to him because he will talk to you like your a 2nd class human being. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!

Alper is a good teacher. While he does have a "holier than thou" attitude, he teaches what he expects you to learn and is very straitforward. His tests reflect what is done in class, so attendance is very helpful. He does talk alot about his own work a little too much, but its useful because it is real data.

Interesting material and he made it very easy to understand by relating it to real life. Weekly quizzes, but if you show up to class they are easy. Very easygoing and made the class fun. I wish he would have taught my other Econ classes.

The material is interesting, as a CJ major I thought it would be an easy course though. Think again!! Everything is relative to supply and demand and if you are new to the subject it's tough. Also, he is an extremely hard grader and pretty unfair. I don't think he even gives out any A's. Bad class!!

very boring, info pertinent to real world probs but his views are the only ones, very pretentious and thinks he is a genius b/c he co-wrote the required books for class...if you are not an econ major, get out as fast as you can!
