The only way to get anything more than a B- is to see him outside of class and go over your papers with him. He waits till the last 3 weeks of class to finally tell you all the assignments. He does care about his students though and wants people to do well, he just makes the class harder than it needs to be.

Neil is a great professor. I have had him for two classes, and loved both of them. He is honest, expects high quality work, and as long as you show up, do the work, and pay attention, you're golden. Some people don't like him, but I think he has a great teaching style.

Neil is an extremely slow teacher. He knows what he is talking about but it takes forever for him to explain something. The tone of his voice puts me to sleep, it never changes. You literally sit there and daydream because he just keeps talking going deeper and deeper into pointless information. He is a nice guy, but i would not suggest taking a class with him.

Great teacher, always helpful, very humorous, does a good job at keeping class interesting. The only thing I didn't like about him is that he swears a lot, and I mean A LOT. If you get offended or feel disrespected easily, I would not recommend him for you.

Neil has one of the hardest yet most intellectually invigorating teaching styles, that encourages creativity and effort beyond the status-quot. Most that don't like his class don't like work, they would rather meet the minimum requirements. He promotes doing your best which isn't always easy. Take him if you really want to apply yourself & learn

I had Neil when I took Screen Writing. Since much of the work is based on creativity, he really tries to engage and foster an atmosphere that allows you creative freedom. Most classes are freeform, but there are a few structured days with critical learning.

I went into this class really looking forward to learning about film. After about a month into the course, I hated movies. I am a dedicated student, but the assignments in this class are extremely heavy. The work load is immense; however, watching movies is fun. Professor Goldstein knows his stuff, but expects a LOT of writing in this class.

Took Neil for what I thought would be an easy movies course. I mean, how hard could a movies course be? Well, there was alot of work, but it was fun work. Neil has a way to put himself on the level with the students. Neil has a way of making you feel like he is doing the work with you. Lazyness is the only excuse for failure in his class. period

I have to agree with the previous girl's comment. "wacky" Neil is just a great guy with a good sense of humor and lots to learn. Hes so forgiving with people that don't have the braincells to complete 1 simple assignment. Breezed by in the class while this one guy did ABSOLUTELY nothing & Neil still had sympathy for that fool. His work is not hard!

I can't believe some of these other comments. I took his studio course, for which he gave me a C. I heard the low grade was because I had missed a few classes, but I think I was still there more often than he was! I turned in all three projects and he wasn't even in class to see any of them screened!
