He is the best. Really takes the time to talk with his students, learn about them, and help them, not only in his class but others as well. He is intelligent and professional but still makes learning fun. From cake to karate, I never want to miss a class. The only meaningful classes I've had are with him. He is perfect in every way

I had zero interest in American Poetry. Bromell makes it interesting and fun to attend class. He's a world class kind of guy.

Without a doubt the best English professor at UMass. Takes student-life and work-load into consideration and always gives extra time. One of the only teachers in the department who really facilitates discussion and offers students a chance to speak rather than pushing their opinions and thoughts upon everyone else.

bromell is one of the coolest old guys i have ever met. just really chill and relaxed. he loves his students, and really cares for them, always pushing them to be better. deadlines were very lenient, as long as you passed it in you were ok. really easy to talk to and very understanding. cake at the end of the year was awesome too

I found Nick to be a very smart, opinionated individual who takes a true interest in pushing the envelope and helping students develop their own voices. At times he could be somewhat monotone, though.

I love Professor Bromell! He was a very good professor to have in the Intro to English major class. He's extremely understanding/lenient with deadlines. Loves talking about English. Classes are sometimes skip-able, but you need to have a friend in the class to tell you what you missed. The only thing I'd say is he focuses on poetry a bit too much.

I can't figure out why so many people who took English 200 like this guy. I found him really boring and a little condescending. The class is super easy though so I guess it's good if you just want an easy A. Out of all of the English classes I've taken here, I learned the least in his.

Prof. Bromell is by far one of the greatest professors I have had at UMass. He is so passionate about what he does and makes students feel the same way. He was extremely helpful when you needed help on papers and my writing scores in all of my classes improved because of his helpful techniques!Take English 200 with him!!

I had an incredibly positive experience with Bromell. The man speaks with incredible clarity, he speaks the way I'd like to write. Prior to the class I despised with a fiery and burning passion writing analytical essays, and now I feel pretty confident and see the value in them. A bit challenging, but the skills you'll receive are worth it.

Prof. Bromell is pretty good -he pushes students to think innovatively about the texts and puts forth some fascinating ideas. Sometimes a little dry when he's speaking, but the assignments are useful and he offers insightful feedback. Mostly discussion based classes run slowly sometimes.

What a great professor! His 200H class was a delight- the texts he chose, and the way he guided the students' understanding of interpretation was so helpful and such a great introduction to the English major. Very helpful when you meet with him. Very intelligent and interested in the right stuff. I hope to take a class with him again in the future.

Wonderful prof if you're down to earth, a big-picture thinker, don't need a lot of structure and are self-motivate. My class with him required me to generate topics and I got very helpful 1 on 1 critiques and advice, but I sought them out. It is a loose class but if youre philosophical (armchair style) and literary, you should enjoy its content.

Classes were based around abstract ideas that he never fully explained. Students are thrown, unprepared, into "real-world" roles, and are given inconsistent advice. Very intelligent, but unstructured and difficult to follow. Try to avoid.

Bromell is the second-worst professor I've ever had. He is pompous, boring, and incomprehensible. Lectures are pointless, go to the review and/or discussions. Tests are a joke and you will not be prepared for them. TA's usually suck as well. Avoid at all costs, seriously. Don't say you haven't been warned.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Lectures are pointless, he doesn't teach anything relative to what is on the exams and is unclear on what is expected on papers. The final was a joke. Take this class with anyone else if you can!

I had a hard time motivating myself to go to lecture. Material was interesting but sometimes gave too much to the "floor" and ended up listening to the same people hear their own voices. Good class though, put in time on papers and do the reading and will be fine.

Prof. Bromell is SUCH a nice guy.. hes one of the only professors that seems genuinely willing to help if you want it.. the class isn't easy but if you put in moderate work you will do well. He's great for letting you know exactly whats on exams and exactly what he expects for papers.. I recommend him.
