Comment:
Dr. Kallenberg is so boring. He spends the first 30 minutes of class talking about things you don't even have to know for the tests. There are 4 test and a final. The final is worth 50% of your grade and you never know how he is going to grade the tests. I put the exact thing that he wrote on the board for one of my answers and he marked it wrong.

He doesn't do any practice problems in class, and can't answer anyone's questions. The material isn't too hard, but his teaching makes it much worse than it should be. Only good thing is he gives practice tests of the material that will be on the tests, but refuses to help us on it and grades it unnecessarily hard.

Though Professor Kallenberg is a nice person, very passionate about math, and attempts to be helpful, he is not a great math teacher. He does random math examples in class with little or no explanations, sometimes unable to solve them himself. I mostly have to teach myself, and he grades his tests unnecessarily hard. Sadly, I would not take him.

If you are considering taking this class, please try your best to find another professor. If it's too late, may god help your soul. His lectures are pointless because he doesn't teach. He simply writes examples on the board and doesn't explain them & doesnt answer questions. If you want to learn anything you have to teach yourself.

I would say he is the worst teacher I've had at Auburn, but that implies that he teaches. The material is hard and he just makes it harder. Don't take his class.

This class requires alot of memorization. He is helpful and willing to meet outside of class. I'm sure that my willingness to come to office hours helped my grade. His grades are somewhat relative, so I would encourage participation. I made an A, but I studied alot.

Thought this class would be an easy A, and I was wrong. You never know how he grades the tests. Extremely inconsistent, and I would not recommend.

Dr. Kallenberg is probably the best math professor at Auburn. I realize that some are unable to comprehend the complexity needed for rigid mathematical proofs, but that is not Kallenberg's fault. He does his job very well: He teaches the class at an appropriate level of difficulty for the subject he is teaching.

Diff Eq is a complicated subject, but Dr. Kallenberg covered the simpler parts...generally, but gave some complicated problems without really explaining them. And yes, the final will be 50% of the grade. If you study and work hard and make sure you really understand the material, you can make an A. Another professor might be clearer though.

Worst professor I've had. You can fully comprehend the material and take a test and fail. Its like playing blackjack with this guy... You can do everything right, but he ultimately decides your grade on tests.

Calculus 3, Dr. Kallenberg is a really nice guy, but like everyone else says....grading is TERRIBLE. 5 Question tests. Final was 50% of overall grade. If you absolutely need a high grade, don't take him. Overwise, MAN UP and take him....it's college, study.

this professor's grading is horrible, and he refuses to change any grades on the tests, be it his fault or not. his tests are not hard, but his grading makes them near impossible to pass, correct answers or not. he is a nice guy, and he does cover the material tested on most of the time. in the last few weeks he seemed to ramble. I cannot recommend

He is a very nice man, but his grading is awful. Tests are 5 points apiece. He does not scale at the end of the semester and refuses to change your grade on any tests.

Teacher is frustrating, but not impossible. Uses good examples in class, but the last month of the semester its like he forgot how to teach and just rambled. I was able to teach myself the material all semester until the last month which became frustrating. Would only recommend to strong math people.

AVOID, if you have him drop the class (wish I would have) and take someone else. Impossible to make a good grade even if you are excellent in math like I thought I was. He is a HORRIBLE teacher and extremely picky with his grading.

In Analysis, Kallenberg definitely took some getting used to. He prefers you to study theory independently and will show you the applications in class. If you know the theorems, the class is an easy A. If you know only the examples he works in class, the class is incredibly difficult. Make sure you study theorems if you get him for Analysis.

Never, ever take Olav Kallenberg for anything at Auburn. Look him up on Wikipedia, he has his own page full of mathematical accomplishments. English is ok, but his teaching style is horrible. Comes into class, looks at the book, closes it and starts scratching problems down on the board, all from his head. Tests suck, he sucks. Never take him.

Worst teacher I've EVER had. Period. Calc 1 and 2 were a breeze for me and I'll probably end up with a C. Very smart but can't convey ideas to the class. Don't take this guy. You can learn much more and do much better by taking someone else. Oh yea, and he won't change your grade EVER. I would rather quit school than take him again.

i made an a. pay attention and use your brain. take some notes and visit his office even if its just so he knows your name when his 'objective' grading come around. don't be a wuss. take his class. go to class - he'll smile upon that at the end of the year. don't touch him with chalk. that's what the glove is for...
