I thought that Olga was a great prof, she cares a lot about her students! Extra credit for up to 6% final grade bonus! Participation is heavily encouraged though, and she marks more harshly on assignments as the semester goes on. There are no online lecture notes, so going to class is very important

Loosely uses the textbook, will briefly look at one page in a chapter but then be tested on the whole chapter, no reviews. Tough grader with homework. This class involves a lot of work. The labs are useless and taught by an incompetent teacher (Maria), whose material in lab does not crossover well with class material. Loved Russian until this class

Extremely kind a wants her students to succeed, however is not too lenient in her marking, will dock you for minor slights in writing. She offered us two bonus opportunities, giving bonus % for reading Russian poems in her office. Absolutely loveable and and if you actually care and participate in class youll do well.

Awful teacher, don't take unless you are ready to dedicate 2 hours of work every day on this class. Extremely hard marker. Students beware!

Excellent Professor, everything is clear, easy, this class is definitely an average booster. She's a little awkward but very cute in the way she makes jokes.

Olga is an awesome prof. She contributed priceless cultural knowledge and tons of humour to the class. honestly I enjoyed this class more than any other that i've taken at the U of C, it was refreshing to have a language class be as fun as this.

Too much time spent on insignificant issues. Sometimes students just do not want to participate in conversation, there is no need to wait until someone speaks up. This class should be dynamic, just like the language. Language and Power if tought, should be tought by a person who can relate the two and show the advantages and beauty of it.

I thought she was hilarious...made class interesting - good stories. Changed my outlook on the way we use words, media, ideology (class was language of totalitarianism). kind of a random marker but in a good way if thats possible.

Excellent professor who doesn't feel the need to treat students like imbeciles. Large amounts of cultural knowledge greatly enriched the course. Honestly, first years are not to be trusted.

Easily the worst prof I've had. Ridiculous amounts of new material to be learned each class with no time spent reviewing. If you ask for something to be clarified you will be patronized and treated like an idiot. I wouldn't wish this course or prof on my worst enemy. Killed my interest in Russian.

too bad this is a prereq for any real RUSS courses 'cause it's downright awful. stay away unless you can handle huge amounts of frustration, ambiguity, and useless labs.

Terrible method of teaching. Never explains anything, doesn't ever let anything sink in. Shows how something is done once and expects everyone to learn it like magic. Doesn't ever remind people about projects or assignments, never even mentions them until the second they are due.
