Nice guy but course is very difficult. The text book is extremely dense and hard to study off of. His lectures are often somewhat all over the place and hard to follow because he goes on tangents. Like Dr. Haney as a person but would probably not take one of his classes again considering how many options there are within the political science dpt

Comment:

Dr. Haney has the confidence and ease that you want all of your professors to have. The material was interesting and the actual assignments and tests were manageable. My only criticism is of the course, which did not allow for many opportunities to make up points should you do poorly on a quiz.

Great guy but probably the worst lecturer I'v ever had. Attendance is required, so you go to class only to sit there and have him talk on tangents for an hour and a half. I ended up using the time to do other work or online shop. All the test material comes straight from the super short book.

Dr. Haney is awesome! He makes class interesting and loves participation, but makes it casual. He is also extremely willing to help with scheduling and any other problems you have as a student. Highly recommend!

an extremely interesting lecture- he makes the class easy to go to since he's so enthusiastic about the subject. class graded basically 2 exams and 1 paper (95% total)- not a particularly easy grader but won't ruin your chance for a good grade- working hard you can get a B easily- highly reccommended

Haney is by far my favorite professor at Miami. He is fun, entertaining, and if you are interested in the material you will learn a lot! Don't just take his classes for reqs, take them because you are actually interested in foreign relations/policy. If you go to his office hours a lot he will be even more helpful!

Defintiely an overall good teacher. Is very passionate about political science, and picks textbooks that really challenge you to think about the material. Overall, if you go to the class, take notes, and read the books. Then you should be able to get a high B at the least. Very helpful during office hours.

Absolutely awesome guy. Very entertaining class. Finds a way to make even boring topics interesting. Loves nukes and deterrence. As a non pol major, definitely found him to be a fairly difficult grader.

Professor Haney is hands down the best prof Ive had at Miami. Took 2 classes and an independent study with him and he is a genuinely good guy who cares for his students. He is busy as Asst. Dept chair but take his class if you have the opportunity. He relies heavily on the text for exams and expects you to connect the matirial. Loves nukes.

Haney is really enthusiastic about International Relations and he is a genuine guy. His lectures are interesting, however they usually don't have a clear structure. He has HIGH expectations, is a very tough grader and takes forever to return tests. Reading the text is a must. If you take this class, be prepared to work your ass off.

I agree that he is a great speaker. I have learnt a lot from his class. However, I do also agree that he has favorites and a hard grader.I had a perfect GPA until I took him. I worked very hard while in his class but guess what I got a B+. If you just want to learn a lot, take him, otherwise make sure you are among his favorites.

I really enjoyed sitting through 2 hours of Haney's lectures. He expects you to be a real college student, so don't expect to get away with slacking. His class was a great experience.
