Troy is one of my favorite professors at UIC. He explains topics in a straight forward manner. His labs are really helpful, they outline a lot of the methods you will be using in your projects. As long as you go to lab, and do the projects then you should be able to get an easy A. He covers most of the midterm in class so you know what expect.

Don't start your projects too late. Try to do a little bit every day. Come to his office hours, he loves to talk and will help you clear up anything you're confused about. Super funny and approachable, very animated and strong lecturer. Would take again.

One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Come to lab, listen to his straightforward "lecture" and learn a bunch. You don't have to go to Lecture but Lab is definitely a must. He basically holds your hand through every assignment.

Take him, you'll pass AND learn the material. He basically tells you what's gonna be on the exams so you can prepare it beforehand. He also gives you most of the code for programs so you just have to 'put it together'. Only reason I got a B is because I skipped a bunch of labs and projects.

I have taken CS 111 and CS 211 with Troy in the past and got A's, those were not so difficult classes, however, I am taking Troy this Fall 2017 for CS 342 and the projects are extremely difficult. Troy is a good person, but not so great of a teacher you have to do a lot of research and work on yourself. His rating on this website is over rated tbh

Comment:
Prof Troys lectures can be a bit of a bore since he doesn't really teach many new concepts and rather, explains the project write up over and over again. But he is super helpful in lab and in office hours. His humor and excitement is a plus. Just make sure you don't get on his bad side, he can get pretty angry if you interrupt his teaching.

Troy is the best professor ever! He tells you exactly what you need to know and goes above and beyond to help you understand. 211 is project heavy- a big project is due every 2 weeks, but if you go to TAs or the tutors you can easily get help. The class is very practical and focuses on making functioning programs instead of theory. Plan your time.

Prof. Troy is a very nice man and a very good lecturer. He's also very organized. He posts all his lecture notes and sample codes in his website so if you miss a class you can easily just refer to it. He also records his discussions through the echo cam. He covers the basics really well. However, I do feel that they could improve the TAs.

professor Troy is a great guy, and he's there if you need help. However, for CS 111 I doubt you'd need help, as it is an easy course and most people get A's. I can't say I enjoyed his lectures (pretty boring), but easy to follow and makes it easier to do the assignments.

LOVE LOVE LOVE professor Troy. He is so understanding and lenient. 14 projects given each 100 points, max points for projects was 1000 so you can skip 4 projects if you score 100 on the rest. He is the type of professor that will push back project dates if he knows that you have other CS projects due in another class. 2 easy exams. Would take again

Neat professor, very well job at explaining everything, more than happy to answer questions, very clear on what is expected, he actually gives you the algorithmsstructuresfunctions for a lot of the projects you work on, you just have to simply add them to the program then its a piece of cake, easy A, he lets u use a cheat-cheet on final

Easiet CS class. Easy A if you do the work. You can do the programs by just tweaking the code he gives in his homepage. For CS majors though, be warned. It will not be anywhere this easy after CS 111. Consider passing out if you have general programming knowledge. All in all, best professor for Computer Science.

Super nice and understanding guy, and an even better lecturer. If you're familiar with programming, this course will be a breeze. Strict grader at first, but curve at the end was generous. TAs sucked and the labs ran weird (one TA for all labs a week instead of one for each lab time), but the labs can be done at home.

He's a super chill guy and he is able to keep me awake in class. There are projects every week so the work load gets a bit heavy if you are the procrastinating type so be careful. Other than that the exams are challenging, but not too bad.

Well Professor Troy is probably one of the best CS prof's the university has to offer. His lectures are crystal clear and his projects are extremely reasonable. Very easy to get an A as long as you don't slack off. At times you will be tempted to slack off BUT DON'T (Personal Experience).

Excellent professor! He knows his c++ and teaches it well! The projects were very tough but definitely doable. Class can get somewhat boring at times but if you listen you will learn a ton! He is very helpful during office hours. He has a sense of humor and is very approachable. He tests and projects are very difficult but he grades generously.
