Amazing teacher! Very approachable and friendly. She is always willing to help and has a brilliant personality. Very meticulous with grading and makes sure you get something out of everything you do. Grades hard but definitely prepares you for it. Take her if you can, she's worth it.

She works hard to make sure you learn and responds quickly to emails. Hilarious, and very clear in what she expects. No shortcuts on tests, you better take notes in lecture. Sweet lady, you'll learn a lot.

Comment:

She's one of the sweetest teacher I've ever had. She helped me whenever I had any trouble and she answered back her e-mails right away. Plus, it's fairly easy to expect what to be tested on and she gives you points if you did better from the previous essay.

Comment:

Dr. Hartz is by far one of my favorite teachers at UCI. Although at times she makes you think and do work, it is worth it because you will actually learn and it's not a difficult class. I would HIGHLY recommend her to any students because she's such a sweet lady and with a funny personality. Thank you Dr. Hartz!

Dr. Hartz is hilarious and very out there. Questions on the midterm/final are specific but the essays on them are pretty straightforward. She goes by the philosophy that "every word counts" so avoid flowery syntax and get to the point. If you improve during the quarter, she factors that into your grade. She looks like Edna Mode from the Incredibles

Avoid her like the plague! She wastes class time on useless "workshops" and hardly goes over lecture material. She's funny, but that hardly makes up for her harsh grading. She forces you to write with an elementary vocabulary and only values simple, obvious ideas. Don't take her if you can avoid it!

I liked Hartz a lot, I think she was a great professor who provided lots of outside but relevant resources, even though she tended to be quite a stickler on grammar (maybe because she is an English prof?) on essays. Tests were easy considering it was Humcore. Also does a good job of fostering class discussion

Very... energetic. Fun teacher to have. Does have a concern for the students understanding of material. Gives LOT of outside sources helpful and not. A bit of a hard grader on essays, but still fair. Tests are VERY easy, just be sure to know general ideas about the material, minus one question about something specific and random. Good teacher.

Her passion for the subject along with her quirky nature helped me pay attention to say the least. As a teacher, she refines your writing style and is open to interpretations on everything. she grades easy as long as there is principle behind your writing. i love her and wish i could have had her again. i suggest getting her if you can.

She is such a cool professor. She is a semi-hard grader on the essays, maybe cuzI suck at writing essays. She gives you so much secondary and tertiary materials, and at first it is really ambiguous what she wants on the essays, but if you go to her office hours (which you MUST) she helps a lot. She helped fix my thesis for all of the essays.
