Comment:

Lectures consist of watching him solve problems or show proofs of theorems. No explanations and requests for assistance require specific homework problems or you'll be referred to tutoring. Quizzes and Exams are very difficult. Lots of homework with very little points awarded and zero feedback. Teaching style was difficult for me to follow.

I actually really liked Professor Burrus. I felt for him because plenty of students dropped due to their frustrations with his anxiety/stutter. While I admit, it was distracting at first, I got over it when it became clear quite quickly that he actually cares about his students and wants them to pass. Hes very generous and sweet.

Comment:

I took him for his first time teaching 180. If you can handle his caffeine overdosed lectures that I found endearing, you'll find his grading criteria is giving, even dropping your lowest test. I had emergency surgery the day of a major test and he was accommodating. It does help to really know your precalc, but I had no issue acing his class.

He is a great professor. Although he is a little awkward, he teaches math very well, and he is willing to answer all of your questions. If you do the work, you will do well in the class. I highly recommend taking his class.

I bought the book, but I did not really need it at all because everything is online. If you do not do the homework and attend class you will not pass. I have taken math before, and he explains everything really well, it's just up to you to ask for help if you do need it. So, instead of thinking of dropping just do the homework and ask questions.

He is very careful in teaching, and showing problems step by steps to make sure his student understand. He is a funny teacher. He grades the test very easy and give point if you understand the concept. His quizzes and tests are basically from the book. You will get an A in the test if you do homework and understand it.

Super clear and helpful. Sometimes I felt like he was treating us as elementary school kids, in a way that he took the time to explain every little thing and made sure everybody understood him. The class seemed too easy for me at the times, because he made it so simple. No surprises on the tests. As long as you do some homework, you will get an A.

Lectures as if it's review material every time, will not help if struggling, there is no gray area for points missed, and teaches confusing "tricks" to solve problems. I recommend only going for testquizzes and their reviews and invest your time with the student tutors for help instead of attending class. Avoid!!!

Prof Burrus explains the subject clearly and if you have any questions you can ask them. He does go offtopic about other math courses, but that's fine. If you stay through all the classes & do your HW you'll pass. Prior to a test he goes over every problem for review -- for some reason 23rds of the class left every time and missed out.

Great math teacher! Highly recommended for non-traditional students like myself. He focused on the important aspects of stats, which made it easy to understand the difficult and confusing required text. The lectures were crystal-clear and relevant -- you know what to expect at exam time. Thanks, Prof. Burrus!
