Dr. Chen is hilarious once he becomes comfortable with a class and is super accessible inside and outside of class. He cares a lot for his students and is willing to help by explaining things or offering extra credit if you need it. Tests are pretty difficult and require studying but they are curved so he doesn't grade too intensely.

Very confusing, have to study a lot outside all the time. You ask him a question and he stares and doesn't know what your asking. If you take this course second half of the semester is super confusing.

Comment:

The class was very enjoyable and fun to be in once you got to know professor Chen. The tests were very heavy and covered a lot of course material. Could always get extra credit on WebAssign which saved my grade. Chen is hilarious and made the class bearable. Overall, Chen cared so much for his students and I would take a class with him again. :)

Dr. Chen is really cool and the funniest professor Ive ever had. A little difficult to understand and follow at fort but I think you get used to it. Doesnt take attendance so that is cool. Only knock on him is that he doesnt really answer questions well if you are lost. Overall great guy.

Dr. Chen is the most disorganized professor you will ever have. He is super unclear and jumps from topic to topic without showing much of a correlation. I didn't take Calc in high school but have a good understanding of math, but when I do have questions he is incapable of answering them. Tests are really long and he takes off a lot of points.

Comment:

Super funny guy. Really nice, but hard to understand him at times. Obviously very smart but he struggles to articulate some of his thoughts effectively. I took stats in high school, so the class was pretty easy, but there are definitely some smart kids who are struggling. Don't avoid him, but don't take the class specifically for him.

Hes the funniest, sweetest guy in the entire world but if you have no background in Calc 2 you're screwed. Most of the class ended up with C's or lower. He is hard to understand mostly because he is so smart and just gets it but he is such a funny and nice teacher wish he wasn't so hard.

I think Dr. Chen is a very nice professor. He's a little hard to understand at first. I recommend going to his office hours when you have questions. He's always willing to help! I got an A in his class, but I had to work my butt off for it, I never skipped one of his classes. Overall, I think if you put in the effort and study, you'll do fine!

Dr. Chen is a very intelligent guy, but he is very unclear when teaching. His lectures are awfully long and very boring, and makes it very hard to follow along. His tests are incredibly hard, and god forbid you miss one letter or one number, there goes 7 points!! Nice guy, but definitely wouldn't recommend unless you are amazing at math.

Great Professor. He has a great sense of humor. It may be hard at first to understand his accent, but you get used to it easy. Collects homework. You gotta study. Pretty ordinary class. Just pay attention and it could be an interesting class.

Dr. Chen is very hard to understand. That is the main thing I want everyone to know. This is the hardest class I've ever taken. If you have never taken calc before this class then DO NOT TAKE WITH CHEN. His test are nothing like the homework. The extra credit webassign is the only reason I passed.

Dr. Chen is by far the worst teacher on campus, he doesn't understand a thing you are saying, he rarely answers questions fully. He isn't helpful what so ever, and never posts grades. Tests are very hard to finish in the time allotted, and many times the questions on the tests were never covered in class. DO NOT take calc with Dr. Chen.

Dr. Chen is one of the nicest and funniest professors ever. Calculus 2 was a struggle but I enjoyed almost every class. He likes to crack jokes. Also, yeah his tests are tough so you need to be solid on the concepts but he's always there willing to help!

Unless you have taken calc before and have a solid basis to go off of, don't take him. I took pre-calc in high school and found myself to be totally lost. I go to the tutor every day before class and sometimes between meetings but I still struggle. The format of his notes and the homework compared to the test format is a nightmare.

Funny, great guy. Willing to help for a few minutes after class or during office hours. Makes very clear what will be on every quiz and announces when homework will be collected. Sometimes material unclear (it's stats) but terrifically humorous and awesome.

Comment:

Success with professor Chen probably varies greatly based on how much you knew going in... I knew nothing about stats going in and left not knowing much more. Very, very unorganized and scatterbrained. Funny and very nice but it's very difficult to take notes based on the way he lectures.
