Comment:
Rabier is a top dog in the Pitt math department. He is probably one of the most qualified to be teaching this class; however, he definitely lacks teaching passion. He is a no - BS grader. Lecture is 100% important: his lectures are focused on concepts (10 minutes) and then examples (40 minutes). If you are a textbook learner, you can still get an A

honestly, i feel like Prof Rabier doesn't really want to teach students at all. he doesn't really answer questions in class and doesn't really care about students asking questions. if you think you are super genius and have plenty of free time(basically you can learn everything yourself throughout the entire course) then take him. otherwise, don't

one of the most stubborn teachers in Pitt i have ever met, writing one variable wrong in the test and got 0 for the entire question despite the fact the way of thinking was not wrong at all

Great professor for diff eq. Exams are exactly like the homeworks, homeworks are extremely reasonable. Slightly intimidating though.

PJ is a solid lecturer for lin alg. Doesn't make you remember the theory, tests are more than fair. Material is clear cut, book also explains it all quite well. If you're good at math/logic this is an easy class. If you're not great at math/logic you'll still be fine.

Fantastic professor for 1180. Homework directly connected with lectures. 2 fair exams. A somewhat challenging final (mainly due to it being worth 40% of your grade).

Entering this class, you'll feel like you're entering a war room regarding the way he addresses the class. He's a nice guy though, IF you can break through the THICK French exterior.

Dr. Rabier is a good professor and is helpful. He seems very impatient when students don't know the basics (like greek letters in Math 1180 when you've seen them in 413) and can be insulting. One student tried to petition to have him fired when he wouldn't change the date for a final exam for her - this is what he had to deal with. Overall good.

Comment:
Dr. Rabier was not a helpful professor. I went to his office hours with questions on the homework, and he was so condescending it almost made me cry. That being said, his class was easy (it was like pre-calc work). He doesn't make you memorize any of the theory, like some of the other professors do. Easy class, but an unapproachable teacher.

Dr. Rabier is one of my favorite math professors at Pitt. His lectures are clear, his assignments don't take over your life, and his exams are straightforward. He usually only has a few questions on exams, so if you do poorly on one problem, it can sting, but the questions are direct enough that there's really no excuse to mess up.

Dr. Rabier is one of the best professors in the math department at pitt. His lectures are clear and concise. The homework is from the notes, and the tests are from the homework. Though he may seem unapproachable to some, I found that when you ask him something, he will give you an answer to the best of his ability rather bluntly. I Recommend.

Very fair with homework assignments and exams. Teaches you what you need to know and doesn't give difficult material unlike the other linear professors. As long as you practice the homework, you'll be fine for the exam. However, the final exam is worth 40% of your grade, so be careful.

Rabier is an extremely talented lecturer; he makes every effort to be very clear with the material, and in general they're easy to follow, considering the nature of the subject matter. His flaw is that he's utterly terrifying and completely unapproachable. He will turn you to stone. His grading scheme seems arbitrary. Just be impressive.

His notes are the same examples from the book. Doesn't give homework because he doesn't know how lon capa works. Always has his back turned against the class so he'll most likely not answer your questions.

Horrible grader and extremely hard exams with no curves. Even our graduate TA cannot perfectly solve the questions from exam on recitation. Not a wise choice for an introductory course. Exam questions are very inconsistent with homework problems. Avoid!
