Patrick is one of the nicest profs I have had, and his class is super interesting and covers a lot of material. His tests are also extremely well written, possibly the most fun to write out and fair out of any I've done. Great mix of problem solving, memorization and bringing it all together. Patrick is a soft spoken but very good professor.

This class was easily the best class of my undergrad. Dr. Walter may speak slowly, but it really does help with overall understanding. he goes over difficult concepts multiple times and tries to make sure everyone is comfortable with the material before moving on. His tests are more than fair, no surprises and fair grading. Great prof.

This class is a must for anyone interested in cancer and molecular biology. Patrick managed to explain what could be very complex topics in very simple and easy to follow powerpoints. Study his notes and you will do great on his fair tests! This was my favorite biology class of undergrad. Take the class with Patrick, don't miss out on his teaching!

Best prof of my undergrad so far. Truly invested in the course and loves passing on knowledge to students. Very clear notes with everything you need. Lectures are captivating and all his tests are some of the most fair ones I have ever written. Study hard and you will be rewarded. I would take any class this fine gentleman teaches! Thanks Pat!

This guy is straight-up the coolest dude. His notes are decent, he's approachable, and his tests are really straightforward. Very easy to do well as long as you review thoroughly for exams. Highly recommended. Really cool to talk to in person too, very supportive and enthusiastic to help students.

Probably the best Biology prof I have had at UVic. Great course with fair, clear tests. I enjoyed his explanations and his pulling of recent events into the course. Made the course relevant to our lives. Go to class, study the notes cold and do well on exams. No need to use textbook.

Yes he was a little slow in explaining course material. He is a good teacher and I enjoyed the course. He really cares about his students. I disagree with the comment below. Lay off on Dr walter he is not perfect but there are way worse profs at uvic!

Really disappointed with him! No time management skills whatsoever. He was late to every class (he said because he has to commute to campus - so do most of us) and would literally cover maybe 5 slides in an hour - bad at explaining and SO slow at speaking. As a result, he made us rush through a ton of material right before the final. Not good.

I really liked Dr. Walter. The 3 profs for this course were quite the mix! Dr. Walter is kind, a little bit Type A (which comes in handy when you're screwing up your Gel Electrophoresis), but very helpful. A little dorky, but he's biologist so it works!

Lab instructor for BIOL362. He says four words where one will do, generally in a monotonous voice. He's very nice, pleasant, knows his stuff, and seems interested to help.
