Comment:
She is unclear on everything. She doesn't understand how to capture interest. She will tell you about how great she is as a person and why you aren't on her level. She is demeaning, makes assumptions about people, and makes broad claims. This class is outrageous and I'm tired. She doesn't prepare you for exams. Hard grader. Miserable experience

DO NOT take Intro to Film Aest. & Anlys. with Zimmerman. This class was not required for me. I was told it would be hard, didn't listen and ended up getting a D. If you are required to take it, GOOD LUCK MATE!

She's horrible. Made me cry on the first day of class. She compared herself to the Pope. Makes racial remarks and completely incorrect evaluations of race and never knows when she's overstepping boundaries. If you are a C&P major you cannot avoid this class. The midterm you go into completely blind. You have no idea what's on it. So that was fun.

Extremely demeaning, manipulative, disrespectful, egotistic, condesending, rude.. juts a few words to describe her. I knew she was going to be a nightmare since the day I moved into my dorm. She sent out a nasty email right after convocation with a list of totalitarian expectations. Grading policy is a joke, very hard to communicate with her Beware

Disgustingly boring lectures and an extremely hard grader. I would also agree that she has the ego of Kanye West, but with none of the accomplishments to back it up.

She actually told me the definition of the word 'argument' that I learned in my class called 'argument' was wrong. When you ask her for clarification on projects she gets flustered and does not know how to respond - combined with tough grading style it is very hard to do well. She spends the majority of class talking about herself. *AVOID*AVOID*

Professor Zimmerman has a PHD and thus makes it known. If she doesn't agree with what you have to say SHE will tell you, and probably call you out for it. As well as repeating what you said and how it was wrong. However, in this course you do benefit from her lectures and she does tell you what it is on the test.

Definitely one of those classes where 100 level course does not even begin to describe it. Zimmerman's also no joke. I was in her section and while she was condescending to her students, she did tell us exactly what would be on the tests so for that, at least I was able to get something out of. Learned some, but overall, not a fun experience.

It is such a hard class for it being an intro course. You will have to buy four textbooks and the reading for the semester is VERY intense. She is full of herself and loves to hear herself speak. Class will probably go over at least 10 minutes. She will call you out in class if she knows you haven't done the homework. Try to avoid if you can!

She's a very intelligent woman, but she's very condescending to her students. She expects them to have the same amount of knowledge as her. On the midterm and final you are expected to interpret the films the way she thinks about them, not your own thoughts. Film A&A is mandatory for all film students though, so get ready.

Comment:
Incredibly intelligent woman with a very good grasp and respect for film. Unfortunately, she enjoys flaunting her knowledge a little too often. Textbook readings are ESSENTIAL to get a good grade. A's are rare but not impossible, and a B should be considered respectable. Mandatory for film majors, so stay alert during lectures and readings.

Dr. Zimmermann is tough. Really tough. She expects you to know the concepts and the textbooks. That being said, she is an amazing professor who understands her field like no other. Many people would think of her as 'eccentric' but she is truly an intellectual. Open your ears, engage and you'll learn a lot.

Patty Zim demands high quality work. She will see right through your BS. That said, she's quite set in her ideas and would be more tolerable if she didn't obviously bask in what she perceives to be her intellectual glory so often. Really, though, despite her somewhat irritating personality, she is a good professor, and you'll learn a lot with her.

She's passionate, but discourages people from making things, like films. She's a critic & theorist but is frightfully close minded, thus only seeing and believing what she deems important. She has an issue with those without a PHD. She thinks that a large vocabulary equals wisdom. Her material simpler than it seems. Thinks self-expression is bad!

Probably the worst professor I've ever had to deal with. Really enjoys hearing herself talk. Unwarranted pompousness, very closed-minded and, if allowed, will talk about herself for hours. Lectures always go long- poor time management and she will insult other professors because "she's the only one with a PHD who reads Variety" It's pretty sad.
