Worst professor I have ever had. Very unorganized and not very helpful. Lectures on the same stuff every class then assigns homework he has never taught. Class organization doesn't make sense. Very hard subject to learn from the way he teaches. Went to office hours and he wasn't very helpful. If you can take another professor, DO IT!

Comment:

Good professor, very good at explaining concepts. One of the few calc profs that give homework, which is a good thing, exams are never harder than the homework given. Always helpful in office hours. The average grade in the class wasn't great but I personally think it's because students didn't put the amount of time needed to get an A.

For his honors class, Becker is not clear at all. He teaches all kinds of theory and does simple examples that do not even go along with the homework. Homework is extremely challenging since he does not teach any of the material that he assigns for homework. If you ask him a question on it, he will mess up at least once on it. Avoid if you can!

Had him for Calc 2, and had to drop. I'm fairly good at math but he is way too strict with grading. You're basically doomed the first test or two if you don't memorize the entire front book cover of integrals, although he says in the real world you'll have them provided to you. Good luck...

Paul Becker jumps all over the place. Do the homework and you will do fine. The questions on the exams tend to be the easier problems out of the chapter. Taking notes in this class is hard because he always does things wrong and has to erase them afterward. I am taking him for calc 2 now

Had him for various math courses. Breaks down topics well so you can understand them easily. Tells you exactly what to expect on tests. He's a bit quirky, but he has a PhD in math, what do you expect? He's great during office hours. Very patient and helpful.

I took the course in high school so I had a basic understanding. Thank goodness. He's an awkward teacher and his homework policy is awful. It's not graded so no one did it, then he picks the hardest problems and puts them on the test. Ones we didn't do in class! DO NOT TAKE if you don't have a background in Calc

This guy lectures on and on, and he tells you to star things or remember them for the exam, and guess what its not on the test... He helps but the guy is too smart to explain it. He explains it in a complicted way and when someone else asks for him to explain it better, its still complicated. Terrible professor...

Becker's a good guy, and a good teacher, just a little scatterbrained. Prepare for a challenge. However, he is more than willing to help you get through your homework provided you utilize his office hours. He's goofy, but it makes the class go by faster. Clearly he knows his stuff; I would recommend him for your upper level math classes.

He understands the material, cares if you learn, is always available/helpful in office hours. He is a little bit disorganized, so he wasn't my style, but he is very good. His goofy quirks made the class go by quickly... but the homework made my weekends dreadful. He assigns A LOT of homework, and you only get 10 points for it! You can't skip them either because it will really hurt your grade! The tests were easy. PS. He never taught the hard examples for the homework--but you can find stuff online.

Great calc teacher. I hated calculus in high school, and he made it so much easier to understand. He had lots of weird examples, always available for help. Assigns A LOT of homework but you get used to it,and the tests are easy if you've done the homework. also, he'll do some of the problems for you if you ask him in class.
