Comment:
Chen 113 is a ridiculous class. 50% of your grade is based on how accurate/precise you are in your lab work , but you don't know how you did until it is too late and you can't fix it. When you talk to Dr. Farnsworth about why you missed points on a lab he can only guess at what mistake you might have made. Way harder than a 2-credit class.

I took chem 629, spectroscopic method of analysis from him and believe me he teaches worst ever. Many people have the same opinion as mine. He doesn't know what he speaks and when asked a question, gives entirely difference answer and even sometimes ignores what has been asked and moves on. He is not even willing to help later on. teaches X, asks Y

This was my first lab class and it was pretty hard. I was happily surprised by the midterm and the final was a little harder but not impossible. Be sure to use your TAs; he'll also give a nice curve at the end.

I hated this class, he is not helpful and the class was graded ridiculously hard. if you have to take this lab, wait until someone else teaches it to take it.

I thought that this class was very reasonable. Do what is expected of you (homework, attend lectures and recitations, etc) and you'll do fine. The tests weren't too bad, except for the final. He does curve so grade averages go up.

He was one of my favorit professors. He always did really cool experiments in class, and he goes at a pace that students can keep up with. That sometimes ment we didn't cover all the material, but he didn't try to cram all the information in the last week. If you attend the lectures, he basically throws quiz points at you, and his tests were ver

DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE FROM HIM!!! Absolutely boring. Wasted my time and my tuition. Likes to hear his own voice and laugh at his own jokes. Likes to teach his class as if we were all Chemistry students working on our doctorates. Tests are impossible. Quizzes are ridicules and he does not like to help students.

Cool professor! Lot's of fun in class, doesn't cover everything, but that's what the TA's are for. His tests aren't killer. It was much easier than expected, and I'm not one of those really smart people.

Make sure to be on time to take the daily readng quizzes, read beforehand and go to the TA recitation (you'll get more from them then from him). His tests are tough, and the quizzes are pretty difficult too. Hate his no curve policy (but I swear there must be one because I got higher than I should've.) Not the most accomodating either.

As others have said, his lectures are pretty dry. I had A's all semester long, but he didn't feel like writing a final, so he used one from another teacher. That was not cool, and I managed one of the higer scores: 67%. Thankfully, there was a hefty curve.

the final will drop you an entire letter grade. Tests are extremely difficult. His grading policy sucks (no curve, everyone can get C's). Not too helpful, not too exciting. Basically, a waste of my time and tuition.

Learned a lot in this class. Doesn't grade on the curve so everyone has a chance to get an A (class avg. was more like a C+). Provides lots of sample tests and quizzes to study for the real ones. Just keep up with the material and get a good TA.

This is going to be a hard class, no matter who the professor is. But I found Dr. Farnsworth to love the subject matter and to be fair on the exams and quizzes. Like somsone said before, just make sure you have a good TA, and stay on top of the material

Great class. He has it set up so you can get an A. Make sure you get a good TA and go to all the review sessions. Chem 105 is the most failed class at BYU, so keep that in mind while taking this. He is a great teacher and has a great class set up.
