Comment:

The worst teacher in the Art department. Doesn't know the tech that he should be teaching to students. Rambles and forgets things often. Very inappropriate comments a lot to certain students. Doesn't grade anything. I also heard he told students of his class to come on this site and rate him positively. Disgusting and extremely unprofessional.

Spends more time rambling about pointless things than actually teaching us. Be prepared to not know what your grade is all semester. Even when you ask him for your grade, he'll just blow you off. So disorganized. It's extremely frustrating.

Favorite professor! I have had him for all of my graphics classes. He always keeps classes interesting. He gives you helpful criticism on your work & is always willing to help you out. Be ready to be treated like you are in the real world and not have your hand held! Quit being so sensitive to feedback you don't like :)

Comment:

Mr Flexner is by far the best teacher I've had at Salisbury University. He pushes you to be a successful designer and makes you more than ready to work in the field. He taught me to follow my "zen quest" and do what I love. Every design class Ive had has been a constructive family and has been my favorite part of college. Great man.

Teaches you to think OUTSIDE of the box and really grow as a designer! Available almost all the time for feedback. He also is a great adviser and helps you plan a path of success to graduate on time and have an edge in the industry and not be "melba toast"

I don't even know where to begin with just how awful Paul Flexner really is. Will tell you he likes your work and 5 seconds later hate on it. He literally uses the same 5 sayings EVERY SINGLE CLASS. "Variations" and "zen quests" await you if you decide to torture yourself taking him. "Merry Christmas" and bless your soul if you have to take him.

At times, he is an equable and very talented painter and graphic artist. With that being said, his teaching style is surprisingly disorganized and disadvantageous. He offers minimal direction yet criticizes students for not following what he wants. He is infamous for embarrassing students in front of the whole class as much as his repeated cliches.

Extremely unclear, expectations change from class to class and he provides outlines for projects and then gets annoyed when they are followed. Seems to be educated in the field but his teaching methods do not convey that experience into beneficial information, do not like him as a teacher. Although he occasionally gives useful feedback, fire him.

If you want to bend over backwards to please a teacher who hasn't been in the field for 20 years, by all means take a class with him. Otherwise, you would learn more from youtube tutorials. I had Paul for 3 classes, all of them were a total joke. The grading is nonsensical, his input useless, and overall he will hurt your development more than help

Total egghead. He's supposed to be teaching typography but we are just learning about printing spot colors and branding manuals. Always repeats phrases like "merry christmas", "for the zen of it", "cutting edge". He probably wont be here much longer.

He can be vague as to what he wants for next class and what he expects from you. He tends to ramble and go off on tangents. Expect to put in about 6-8 hours of work for every review. Also he can take a while to get through reviews. Other than that, he knows what he's talking about.

Hes tough. Be prepared to put in 4 to 6 hours of work for every class if you want an A. Speak up, he likes ppl to be honest and have an opinion on things. Sometimes it feels like he tells you to do something diff each class but u can learn a lot from him. Be prepared, he tells it like it is. If u don't try and ur work sucks, hes going to tell you.

First masculine design professor I have had. Opened my world to design as a career. Treats the class like its an actual agency review and stimulates the class to respond with creative tips and ideas unlike previous teachers. You literally do about 4-6 hours of work before every class to be ready. I will be taking him again.

Flexner's one of my favorite profs ever. Took him for 2 diff classes. Definitely not an easy A. a lot of work, and he's a fairly tough grader, but he'll teach you a lot. He's always in a good mood so class is always entertaining. ive heard some say he's a spaz but he's an art prof, and he knows what he's talking about

He jumps around entirely too much with what he wants you to do. Although he gives good advice, he often forgets what was said. This becomes very frustrating towards the end of the semester, when its finals week and you have no completed projects because he basically tells everyone to re-do their work every week. He sometimes plays favorites.

DEF a great teacher for Graphics! LISTEN TO HIM, HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT!!!! (not many teachers do). True- he does play favorites but keep working harder and it will pay off. Take him, if u want to know how it is in the real world!
