Comment:
Dr. Gares is great, he is passionate about what he does and makes the course enjoyable. He doesn't have a textbook instead he gets students to buy like 6 books to read throughout the semester and write reports on. He gives great feedback and is really understanding. If you do everything he ask you'll be fine.

Very boring professor with a dry sense of humor. This class is way more time consuming than what is suppose to be, you have 5 exercises, 3 exams, a paper, and discussion board (Packback). He never met deadlines and continued to push assignments back and constantly lost my assignments. If you take this class be prepared for loads of work.

I took this class thinking it would be interesting or easy, but it turned out to be the opposite. His lectures are irrelevant and boring. You take his exams online, which is a plus, but he will sometimes ask you questions about his personal life experiences that he talked about in class. I wouldn't take it again if you paid me. ok maybe i would

He posts his powerpoints on blackboard, but a lot of the information on his tests are from things he says in class. Everything is online so the class is not that difficult. The book is not needed at all. Mr. Gares is willing to help when you ask him! Great professor.

Great guy, boring teacher. Doesn't take attendance but gives pop quizzes. Grades exercises harsh. All test have bonus questions. Gives extra credit activity at the end of the semester. Not a super hard course. If you come to class and do what is asked you'll make a good grade.

Mr. Gares is so elite. If you show up to class you will pass. Class will be long and boring but it is worth while. Mr. Gares is one of the best professors at ECU and you can tell by his respect of water that he is a water bender off of avatar. You can catch him water bending by the lake.

Overall very good class/professor. Show up to class and it's an easy A. lectures can get boring, but notes are all posted online, tests are all online and he gives you 2 days to do them. Very nice person and genuinely cares, easy A.

Paul, was well, interesting, his lectures are awful and long (I always brought homework for other classes) the homework is also tedious and graded harshly, I made A's on all my English papers but consistently got C papers in this class. The tests are online yet hard, ended up with an A in the class only because he curves the final grade like 10 pts

As long as you're in class, you get the bonus questions for tests. The tests are online so it's great to work with your schedule! The group project is VERY important though it is last. It will make or break your grade, but getting a good grade on it is easy. He just wants to see you learned something and be creative! I would take him again for sure

He is very helpful when it comes to review sessions. I do not think I would take this class again because some of the questions on the exams were not discussed in class. Mr. Gares is very passionate about Geography and shows that through his lectures and assignments.

DO NOT TAKE HIM I took this class thinking it would be an interesting fun class and boy was I wrong. Assignments are tedious and long. He takes forever to grade work respond to email.. Think long and hard before signing up for him. You also had to buy an online book which I found annoying

Very enthusiastic about the subject. With that said, he is unorganized and never met deadlines. This class ended up pulling down my other class grades due to deadlines being pushed back and the amount of time needed to make a decent grade. Be cautious in your decision to take this class. It will consume you.

Professor Gares was an awesome teacher. I got him for water geography 2010. He basically based his teaching off slide shows. He starts off the class with music every day. It's a shame that more than half the class skipped cause attendence was not mandatory. If you attend you'll definitely be fine. Would take his class again in a heartbeat.

Awesome professor! Attendance is not mandatory but it is a good idea to go as the exams are straight from the slide shows and notes from class. Dr. Gares has review sessions a night or 2 before the exams which I would advise you go to, they help tremendously! A couple essays were required too. Would take again

Dr. Gares taught Coastal geography during the spring of 2006 and I saw some improvement in his attitude. He even helped me more than before. However, he sometimes answered his cell phone during class. Also when explaining information to me he sometimes was not easy to understand. But again, I did see improvement with this professor.

Dr. Gares taught Earth Surface Systems during the spring of 2005 and wasn't very helpful. He would promise to help me with assignments by appointments, but did not show up half of the time. He continued to tell me that I was going to fail his class. I wonder does this professor shows favoritism toward certain students? I know some students got A's.

Comment:
During the spring of 2005 in environmental hazards class Geog 3250 Dr. Paul Gares released class at least 8 minutes after the scheduled time. The class was from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm. Releasing class later than the scheduled time is against university policy. He also wasn't very helpful and sometimes get mad quickly when asking him questions.
