Physics is not a spectator sport. lectures are optional but recommended if you don't put work in you wont get above a 70.

He explains things quite well, but in a monotone voice that can lull you to sleep. Homework assignments are fairly difficult, and the tests and exams were probably the hardest I've ever done.

Monotone voice, you will fall asleep especially if you have him at 8:30am. Provides very little examples, and focuses nearly the entire lecture on concept (copied from textbook/his notes) directly to the board. Hard marker. Lost 15% on an assignment for not drawing a f.b.d even though answer and process was correct. Must do things his way.

This prof. did a great job explaining things in lecture and gives you great notes to look at, but this class is fairly unforgiving with the assignments and tests, this is not a class you can cram, as Paul puts it, "Physics is like a musical instrument, it doesn't matter how many concerts you attend you have to practice in order to succeed."

Johns is an excellent professor. He explains content really clearly and thoroughly. However, I found his class was no cakewalk. Be prepared to work hard and not be lazy. His exams and assignments are pretty unforgiving. Tough prof, but then again this is university.

I've taken multiple courses from P.Johns. Excellent teacher for upper level courses! Can't understand the book? Go to class and it is plainly described. Actually tests you on things he has taught you.In class notes are top notch. Wish he could teach all my upper level courses. Don't listen to the first year students above... they have no clue...

Quite unhelpful. Knows his stuff well but is sub-standard in conveying the point across in class. I'd never take a class with him again if I had the choice to.

His tests are hard, but definitely not impossible. If you learn more by reading I would say don't bother going to class, but if you learn by listening to someone, then he is great. Explains things very clearly. This is probably the hardest class in 1st year, but if you don't screw around you can do well

There was no point to going to his class. He basically rewrote the text but in a confusing way. His tests are hard but are do-able if you've done the assigned problems, which you can usually do in the tutorial right before hand. The course was tough and he didn't do much to help you along. Monotone voice and he wrote too fast to copy notes well.

Nice guy but needs to help out students more by giving them a break for the tests, like allowing another drop or something. Pretty tough.

Best of the profs offered for the course. But He definitly is a walking talking textbook. At least you'll have good summary notes of the textbook. And at least he tells people to shut up so you can listen.

If I wanted a text book that could walk and talk I would take this guy's class. I learned nothing from this prof at all, notes are copied directly out of the text. Maybe problem solving in lectures would make lectures useful as opposed to naptime.
