Comment:

At first, I wasn't that engaged by this professor. However, this changed throughout the duration of this class. He is incredibly kind, smart, and so forth. The essays you may do will have to be of great quality, but it is not something to stress over. Ultimately, he wants you to get something meaningful through Shakespeare, which I certainly have.

There's a lot of reading involved and you will need to buy all the books. There is a quiz everyday based on the readings. (Just make sure you read the books) There is an essay every 2 weeks or so. He is very humorous and is always very passionate. He is very forgiving. Just read, show up to class, write the papers, and you will do fine! :)

He is a monotone man and taking his class at 8am was difficult especially learning Shakespeare. Overall, he is a sweetheart who tries to relate modern pop culture to Shakespeare for better understanding. 3 papers all semester and they were so easy. Easy A.

I'm genuinely surprised at how well rated he is. Unlike others, I don't find his lectures to be inspiring. He takes the events in poems and repeats them to the class with no insight. He is very strict about attendance--miss even 1 class and your grade goes down significantly. There are 6 essays a semester, and they all have the same prompt.

Best professor I've had so far at SUNY Plattsburgh. He was supportive and honestly made sure I didn't drop out of school, and I easily could have. I leave every class feeling uplifted and I genuinely enjoy what he teaches. Take a class with him if you can.

I wish I could pick more tags for him. I love this man. He is knowledgable, super sweet, and keeps the class interesting. He is not a tough grader at all, but he needs to see that you are putting in an effort. There are only three essays, which are relatively easy. He does assign reading, but it's not always mandatory. He really makes use of the time and he doesn't keep you longer than he's supposed to. There were only three papers. With the poetry paper, we met with him in groups a few times to go over every stanza. He makes sure that you know what you're doing for your paper.

I thought I'd hate the class because of the way he speaks but he's a genuinely great guy. Very lighthearted and passionate about literature. No tests, just a 5 page essay at the end of each topic we cover. He does not use Moodle which was annoying but not impossible.

Dr. J is an professor any student will respect and learn from. He chooses great novels, makes the class fun and he has a voice that Morgan Freeman is jealous of. My writing and reading skills increased 2 fold from his class. His papers are rigorous and strict but he is willing to help. I am taking him again in another course bc he is the man!!!!

He is seriously the sweetest guy! He is also very intelligent. He is so laid back, easygoing, and funny. The assignments are very reasonable and not at all time consuming and he prepares you very well for each paper with class discussions. Would recommend him to anyone. Definitely take a class with Dr. Johnston if you can!

I doubted Dr. Paul Johnston at the beginning because of his monotony and long pauses, but he is truly an amazing professor. He has so much respect and optimism for life. He is very passionate in what he teaches. You may find yourself going through a lot of his personal stories and getting a little bored, but he has a good spirit;can be humorous :)

I have had Dr Johnston for more English classes than i can possibly count. He is also my adviser. Hes a great teacher and ALWAYS available. He really knows his stuff. I recommend taking every class he has to offer.
