Comment:
Econ Stat is one of the hardest classes I've taken at UNF. Professor Mason gives two take home exams (expect to spend 10-15 hours on both) and does not grade consistently. The in class final is difficult as well. He makes students feel stupid for asking questions and if you miss one class you will most likely be lost the rest of the semester.

Avoid, if possible. The lectures are manly about his personal life and bragging about being smart. Doesn't have a book which makes it hard to refer to material that he didn't go over. His first 2 tests are take home which are nothing like his homework's or lectures. Very forgetful. Seriously avoid.. if don't want a headache the whole semester.

Don't take this professor. It's nice to not have a book, but his teaching style is very arbitrary and it's hard to determine what is noteworthy and what is not. Test have content not covered in class which according to him is by design. He grades test very subjectively, whereas two students with same answers may have largely different grades. DON'T

All of our exams were take home and the class still averaged in the 60s. Incredibly tough grader. Doesn't assign a textbook which is great for your wallet but not so great for your learning when you miss a class and can't see him do the class example. Don't take the guy unless you have to.

The professor doesn't make you buy a book, but you better write down notes or video record him because it will help out with tests. First 2 are take home and final is cumulative. I got an 80 on both and he curves the final.

Dr. Mason is a very respectable man and not a bad professor BUT his tests are nothing like what he goes over in class and he grades them more strictly than any professor I've ever had. Would not recommend. Also he is far too demanding for the group project he gives out. Pro: Easy to talk to in his office.

Dr. Mason is not a professor for those who skip class or want to just get in and get out. He forces you to learn. He actually makes you want to learn. Some of the reviews say that he doesn't cover what is on the test. This is the most untrue thing I've read. He makes you think on a test. He doesn't expect you to just regurgitate information.

I'm an accounting major and found this class to be very interesting. You have to work for your grade, but I feel that it's one of the only classes that actually taught me anything. If you don't plan on going to class or studying I recommend that you not take this class.

I didn't expect to take this class over the summer, but I'm glad I did. Class size was small so we got more Q&A time. This class is hard, you will need to work together to do well. Grades are very much a group effort as there are 2 take home exams. Also 1 cumulative final, open note. Attendance is not mandatory, but recommended! Take GOOD notes!

This class lacked structure. His lectures did not cover most of the material. He would expect students to learn from each other by making us answer one question out of the back of the book for each class period. He covered between eight to ten chapters per exam. I would have learned more through handouts to practice the material. Avoid his classes.

Does not cover anything in detail, he goes over several topics, but just the basic, nothing that other Econ courses donĂ¢€™t cover. The exams cover about 9 chapters each and he does not cover most of the material. The class did not added value to my education, I did not learn anything new and it was tedious. Nice guy, but wasted my time and money.

Very bad professor. Has 2 take home tests and one in class final exam. There was nor real structure to the lectures and it didnt really reflect the hw or the tests.I would not recommend very bad at teaching the material also.

The class is difficult, Statistics is not an easy subject.Class is mandatory, attending will help you anyway. Professor Mason does an excellent job teaching hard information and is very helpful. He responds to emails the fastest I have ever seen.Uses real world numbers, which is interesting. If you want to skate by, pretend your GPA is high not for u

He's got to be the most difficult professor teaching this class. The project is terrible if you aren't great at both statistics and economics, and the exams seem to cover things you don't even learn about. The class averages for the first 2 were 60 and 62 for my class. Don't waste your money buying the book.

This class is really hard. I did learn a lot though. Mason can be kind of a jerk in class but out of class he's very nice and helpful. Study review tests before tests. Tests are difficult. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless you have to.

Conecepts are hard to understand. He explains them well but you must still spend a considerable amount of time studying. Tests are also pretty difficult.
