Comment:
He is extremely rude to the class and doesn't treat students with respect. His lectures are long and hard to follow since he constantly goes off track and uses a chalk board. Worst part of the teacher is he makes you buy a photocopied reader on the first day of class in class for $40. Probably cost maybe $15 to make. Clearly scamming students.

Being in his class drained me, he's a really boring teacher. I had a lot of fun in discussion, the TAs really help! The grading criteria is also really straightforward, and he drops your 2 lowest test scores. Easy A class, just really boring.

It was the worst professor in UCI, he did not talk about what you will be taking in the exam in the class. Also, his textbook does not contain the exam questions. His ugly and useless textbook was written by himself, and it will cost you $40. You have to buy this useless textbook! NEVER TAKE COURSES OF THIS PROFESSOR !

Professor was incoherent in lectures. Very rude to students and confusing lectures. The tests never matched the book or content taught during class. Also paranoid about students talking in class.

His lectures are so confusing. 5 exams and one final( which had weird questions, and were hard to answer) I took his class and learned nothing. It was just a waste of time and waste of tuition to take his class. Avoid his class as much you can!

He is one of the best teachers I have had because he is consistently on time, he cares for his students, and he always responds to questions. To do well in his class just SPEAK UP and answer his questions!!! Also, do NOT talk to others he hates that and will call you out, he will give extra credit for those who speak up and participate though!:)

Honestly one of the most boring teachers ever, his lectures are long winded and only like a good 20 minutes of lecture are given. He's kinda rude when people ask questions &made this class way harder for a water down stats class. He's class is more conceptional than math really & your best shot at getting a good grade is praying you get a good TA

He's a very old school teacher, and has no tolerance for talking during lecture. His lectures can be very confusing. His is textbook was well written, but didn't help me understand the concepts in depth. He has Lecture based tests and Lab based tests that are separate. I wouldn't recommend this class, but it is manageable if you put in the work.

If you can take another professor, you should do so. The professor makes the material difficult to understand and constantly contradicts himself. The book kind of helps but you have to teach yourself pretty much everything. The section is mandatory and is pretty separate from the class material.

Useless class and very useless professor. He was no powerpoints, just scribbles random things on a chalkboard. His tests expect you to remember very random, obscure and detailed things that he has said in class. He's very rude and condescending to students when they ask questions or try to participate. Avoid at all costs if you can.

Shirey does a poor job of teaching the material. His tests often go into much more detail than he would make you think given his lectures. Furthermore, he was very late for one class and absent for another. Seems to either ignore students when they want to ask a question and then acts rude if you try to leave the class early because it's useless

This professor has no PPT, and his teaching is just like you are attending a philosophy class when this class is just about accounting, graph, data and something about math. His organization of information and knowledge is a BIG MASS. The course TA is way helpful than him which the TA provide the "Helpful PPT"- the only material source that helps.

He grades based on 5 lecture and 5 lab quizzes, lowest quiz dropped, and 1 paper (2 drafts). The lab quizzes were easier than the lecture quizzes, but going to lab was pointless. Be sure to do his practice quizzes and attend lecture to prepare for lecture quizzes since the problems are about the same and is mostly about what he talks about.

Writes on the board (no powerpoints). 1 Paper with 2 draft due dates. Talk with your TA for help!!!! You buy the textbook the first day of class. 5 Tests for Lec and Lab so it is 10 tests in total. The lowest score is dropped. The Lab was easier than Lec. Lec is about information literacy while the Lab is about Microsoft Office programs and SPSS.

He is one of my favorite professor. He really take care of his Student dying office hours. His grading is fair game. As long as you do your hw, have average on your quizzes. Youll do pretty good. He really wants his students to learn statistics. He explains it slowly so that everyone can understand.

5 exams + final. Exam 5 + final are on same day (15 questions each). Hard exams, because theyre very different than whats in book/lecture. Class test averages were almost all failing grades, but he adds some pts. Amongst worst at replying emails. Can come off as slightly disrespectful when you seek help. Expects you to know as much as him.

for a introductory class it was very hard. I really thought this class would ruin my GPA. An A isn't unattainable you have to work for it. Gives EC towards the end of the semester. Quizzes for lecture and lab every 2nd week. Not clear on assignments or lecture. No coordination between TA and professor. Labs are easy but a waste of time.

Professor Shirey isn't the best lecturer. He doesn't utilize PowerPoint, and instead chooses to write on the white board. This makes taking notes extremely difficult, especially since he sometimes becomes distracted. There are five tests and a final, with the final test and final occurring on the same day. I would recommend reading the textbook.

His lecture and exam was extremely different, the materials he taught in class will expand deeper and harder on the exam, however; you can take his preview exams over EEE to see the styles of his exam and testify your knowledges, also if you are in discussions of Calvin Thomas, you will mostly likely ro get a grade better than B+.
