This class can be an interesting class. I don't recommend it if you are just looking for the easy A though. You have to read the book for answers on the test but he gives you study guides for all the tests and the questions only come from there.

I am in no way, shape, or form a music major, and I came out of this class with A. I did, however, attend every single class which at the end of the semester paid off. If you go to every class where he takes attendance he will exempt you from the final giving you 100%. Vance was fine as long as you respected him.

I never met the guy, but he said I couldnt join his 060 level guitar class. I wanted to minor in music and said "I don't have room for music minors". there were only 3 people in the class!!...I guess 5 years of guitar playing and a love for music isnt enough. Don't minor in music. he wont let you.

Such an awesome guy. Show up, pay attention and do the work and its an easy A. He's pretty funny and down to earth, I actually enjoyed going to class. you listen to music half of the time so it's actually fun sometimes. highly recommend him!

Dr. Vance is an amazing professor. I've had him for orchestra as well as music history. He knows his stuff and has an incredible passion for making music and teaching. He challenges students and makes class/rehearsal interesting at the same time. I would highly recommend him.

Vance is a knowledgeable teacher for music history and other lecture courses, and good at conducting, choosing music, and educating during orchestra. However, many of his stories come across as exaggerations or misleading, and he seems very full of himself. His cello playing is hit or miss -- I have seen him play amazing music and seen him strugg

he doesn't accept different styles of playing cello very well, and he rips on other teachers a lot. If you haven't practiced, it's easy to get him going on one of his stories! He never really praises playing very often, but he keeps an open mind about things. He's a very accomplished cellist, and that's clearly what he pays the most attention to

This guy is a fake. He can't teach, and he certainly cannot play. He's unknown in REAL musical circles, and thus he must resort to using "professional" and "world-class" in an extremely loose sense. The only reason he can fool people is because they are too provincial in this town to know the difference. Go elsewhere to hear a cellist!

Only Knowledgeable in Cello! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FLIPPING MIND! whoever wrote that is either stupid/lazy/or doesn't know Dr. Vance. He has been all over the world, played with some of the best orchestra's, and has the TRUE stories to back them up. And he's one hell of a Guitar player, alone with several other instruments.
