Comment:
First and foremost, Hickman is NOT a teacher, he is a researcher, and his 'teaching' reflects that. I basically had to teach myself this course because he is just that awful. The equation sheet he gives you doesn't have nearly enough equations you need on it. If you have to take PHY 021, do yourself a favor and DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HICKMAN.

Worst professor at Lehigh!! He never teaches example in class. All he does is what's exactly on textbook. No need to take lecture at all. NOT helpful at all. You can only study from TA or reading. bad experience!!

Lectures are pretty bad. Won't learn much from him. You will need to read the book, go to recitation and spend a lot of time on the homework to understand material. That being said, I thought exams were easy although the class average proves otherwise. The final was a lot harder. He is NOT the worst teacher ever if you actually put work in.

I had him for both Phy21 and Phy31. In 21, his teaching was the worst ever. In 31, however it is completely different. All content is presented on the board and it really makes sense. I still don't understand how can there be such a drstic difference in teaching.

In brutal honesty worst professor/teacher I have ever had. His lectures could put infants to sleep for countless hours. He gives unfair tests on material he doesn't teach and then grades them with extreme harshness. I've had some bad teachers before as well, but this guy makes my second worst teacher ever look like teacher of the year.

Lectures are useless but mandatory. He gives you his powerpoint notes on a handout and then copies them onto the board. You'll learn most of the material from the TA's and the HW. Exams are not terrible and typically average in the 60s. Also not a very nice guy - avoid him if possible.

I'm actually in the class right now and I thought it'd be a good idea to mention how painfully boring his lectures are. Also, in general, he does a poor job explaining material. Everything you learn will be in recitation and from the HWs. Avoid him if possible.

During 30 minutes with another physics professor during a review session I learned more than I learned the entire first semester of physics. Horrible terrible teacher.

I learned much more from reading the book than I did from his lectures. His teaching is so bad that I was pretty much on my own. Try to get another professor for this class if you can.

Godawful. You cringe every time you remember you have that class next. The material is not easy from the start, and he just makes it worse. He does no real examples in class. His lecture is nothing but a condensed history of the past hundred years of electricity and magnetism equation derivations.

Boring and rambling lectures. Spends little to no time developing and explaining concepts and merely does examples, which tend to turn into derivations.

this guy is a control freak and a nut. He gave everyone in his class bad grades just cause he was in a bad mood, and he talks down to his students like they're idiots. He's disrespectful, makes nasty remarks about you personally and treats you like you're 5.

Ok, so this guy is a good person and all, tries hard to teach, but doesn't really make the cut. There is no denying that he definitely knows what he's doing but it wouldn't hurt if he realized that student's haven't been doing what he's done for the past 30yrs.
