Very knowledgeable about his subject. Too knowledgeable to be teaching. Exams notoriously difficult, with no one getting above 50%. Skips around the book so it's difficult to follow/review. You WILL get cold called, & he does hypos. Be prepared. Do the reading & answer the questions he sends out.

Professor Garlock knows his subject, and is extremely academic. Does not get very buddy-buddy with his students, but he makes himself as available as he can if you have questions outside of class. He does send out extensive questions for each class, and I would highly recommend answering them before you step into his classroom. Very structured.

I had him in my first year, 1977. Not fun like Prof. Werber, he was strictly business, but VERY good. As someone else commented, when you left his class, you KNEW criminal law. Never heard of mens rea before his class? Me either. But i knew if when i was done. More important than that, he really will show you how to "think like a lawyer."---crucial

Class isn't what you would expect it to be. Do as many practice exams as you can and you'll do well. Don't get lost in the theory.

I read some reviews and it make me laugh so bad. The guy probably knows his material but his being teaching for so long that I believe he should be able to teach without helping materials. He constantly reads his notes in the class, so please give me a break about how smart this guy is and go and see a real professor teaching.

Garlock is one of the toughest professors to have during your 1st year. Advice: be prepared for every class, he gives new meaning to the socratic method (sink or swim). He is an extremely hard grader, you will NEVER finish one of his TOUGH exams (which I believe sets us up to fail). He gives arguably a 5hr exam to be taken in 2-3 hrs.

Garlock really wants students to learn the material. He prepares weekly study questions that clarify the reading. He really cares! Definitely old school though. Don't cut corners in his class. Exams are brutal b/c he expects you to think and write like an attorney. I would never call him "HOT," but I do think he's a very cute older man.

Very rigid although he relaxed a littel after the first semester...probably because he got slammed on reviews. You'll never finish his exams and he grades on grammar and spelling because everyone knows the doctrine.

Traditional teaching style, stiff, control freak, cold calling. He'd be much better at legal history than torts, but I must admit we did learn a lot.

He's demanding and the class is rigorous. You'd better have your briefs ready for class, and you'd better read every footnote in the casebook. Despite being hard, he's an excellent criminal law prof. He could lighten up a bit though.

Love/hate relationship with him because it was the HARDEST class of 1L year but I learned an incredible amount and his expectations are very high so its great if you can meet them at all!! However, will call on you in class more than other professors, exams are crazy hard, and he can be hard to follow in class and really grasp what is important.

Has a tremendous knowledge of the subjects he teaches. Eager to help outside class and communicate in email. His bark is worse than his bite. He complains about technology but has a greater mastery of it than much of the rest of the faculty. Will call on you if you are not paying attention and will not pass until he gets an answer.

I don't which is worse the teacher or the text. He assigns a insane amount of material to read from a incomprehensible text. He is very disrespectul to students (which can sometimes be entertaining, but not professional). The worst exam of my 1L. It is safe to say that only 20% of my class actually finished his exam. Avoid with all costs!

Very "old school" type professor. His class was extremely difficult and a lot of work. While in school I couldn't stand his class, but when I was done with law school and started studying the bar I was surprised by how much I still remembered from torts. As difficult as his class is, you will definitely learn a lot.

Obviously the people who have already rated this guy are the lucky few who earned an A. This guy is Hitler incarnate, but far more diabolical. He could care less about your welfare. He has the clarity of a deep sewer and the stench of a dead rat. If you are a 1L and you see Warlock on your schedule I suggest you drop out immediately.
