Dr. Hahn is a superb professor. He is an expert on US foreign policy. His makes you work in this graduate level class. But the level of learning is well worth it.

Comment:
Hahn met all of my expectations for a history professor: In lecture, he delivers the content without going on tangents and without being boring. The slides were on Carmen, but it's necessary to attend for filler info, and he's tactful with student opinions For the midterms/essay, he's very clear with his grading criteria and fair with critiques.

The hardest class at OSU is HIST 770 for all of you grad/doc students. No amateurs. They call the class "the sweatshop" because you have to read a thick-ass book and write a 4 page single spaced paper (not a book report but a comparison to other scholars etc) every week. And give an oral report half of the weeks. You will learn a****load and meet some great people if you can stick it out though.

If you lack a good background in American history(1920-present), definitely take a lower level intro. class first, otherwise you'll struggle majorly. LOTS of reading, but it's not necessary to read the subject specific books,BUT STUDY THE TEXTBOOK EXTENSIVELY. Class = a note taking marathon.

Had lots of interesting info to impart, but somewhat dry. Very notes-intensive class, not particularly helpful to students in small setting, but still knows his subject.
